Focus is Apple’s most extensive overhaul of push notifications to date. With this feature, you can choose who you allow to contact you at a particular time, what applications you see on the screen at work, and so on.
What devices is the Focus available for?
Focus works with all iphones that support iOS 15 or higher. Apple also added the Focus tool to all iPadOS 15 devices.
In addition to the iPhone and iPad, Apple has integrated the Focus with macOS Monterey powered computers and a select Apple Watch running watchOS 8.
What is the Focus of the Apple Focus?
Apple chose to introduce the Focus to give users more control over their phones. This feature also allows you to adapt to different situations, such as receiving work-related notifications only during office hours.
Beyond customization, the idea behind Focus is to help users avoid distractions. The tool helps people achieve this goal by not displaying irrelevant notifications until the appropriate time.
How does focus work?
Apple’s new solution lets you choose what to “focus on” at different times of the day. You can choose from a range of default options, such as:
work
Personal time
Go to bed
During a particular focus, the device’s interface will adapt to match it. For example, you can choose to receive work-related notifications only when you are in the office.
Similarly, you can display only fitness-related apps while exercising.
Is Focus automated or customized?
Focus offers a mix of automation and your own personal choices.
Apple customizes functionality in a variety of ways. One of them is location: your device will ask if you want to turn on the working version of Focus when you arrive at the office, if you’re near a gym you use regularly, and so on.
Another way that intelligence drives focus is at a particular time. For example, if you usually exercise at 7 a.m., Apple might suggest that you turn on the relevant Focus mode on your phone.
Although Apple uses intelligence to help better customize the Focus, you can still add your own style. In addition to creating custom patterns, you can select applications to be included in each pattern.
By default, Focus syncs across all supported devices you log in to with your Apple ID. But, for example, if you only want to use certain Settings on your iPhone, you can toggle them so they don’t cross sync.
Get better results with Apple’s new iOS 15 features
By combining intelligence with personal preference, Apple gives users more control over the notifications they receive on their devices.
By customizing notifications, home screens, and so on, those who take full advantage of Focus will find themselves more productive and less distracted.
