Apple today stopped verification of iOS 14.4.2, following the official release of iOS 14.5 in late April. This means that users who have updated to iOS 14.5 can no longer downgrade to iOS 14.4.2.
IOS 14.5 comes with a host of updates, including the option to unlock an iPhone with an Apple Watch while wearing a mask, new support for AirTag, and App tracking transparency that lets users control which apps can track their activity on other companies’ apps and websites.
Apple typically stops verifying older versions of iOS for a few weeks after it pushes out the official update. For some users who have updated to the latest iOS, downgrading can sometimes be very effective when they encounter a major Bug. That’s why Apple waited a while before turning off the verification channel for older versions of iOS.
It Home has learned that iOS 14.4.2 offers important security updates that Apple has previously recommended for all users.
