Apple stopped verifying iOS 14.4 today after releasing the official version of iOS 14.4.1 earlier this month. This means that users who update to iOS 14.4.1 can no longer downgrade to iOS 14.4.

IOS 14.4.1 provides important security updates that Apple had previously advised all users to install. Security support documents show that the update fixes a WebKit bug that previously could have allowed malicious creation of web content execution code. WebKit is the browser engine for Safari and third-party browsers on iOS. It is understood that Apple typically stops verifying older versions of iOS a few weeks after the official update is pushed. IOS 14.4 supports “camera” recognition of smaller QR codes, and also fixes a problem with fake images in HDR photos taken by the iPhone 12 Pro. For users who have updated to the latest iOS, this can sometimes be useful when they encounter a major Bug. That’s why Apple waited a while before closing the verification channel for older versions of iOS.
