Some developers have been exposed in foreign media that they found several references to “realityOS” in the App Store upload logs and the GitHub repository used by Apple. Based on the leaks, realityOS is most likely apple’s new AR/VR operating system that will run on apple’s rumored mixed reality devices.
Apple AR/VR headsets are expected to run a new operating system, formerly known as “rOS,” which stands for reality OPERATING system. Just as tvOS runs Apple TV, macOS runs Macs and watchOS runs Apple Watch, “rOS” is expected to be the core of Apple’s AR headset.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple wants to create an “App Store” for headphones that will focus on gaming, streaming video content and videoconferencing. Bloomberg describes it as an “all-encompassing 3D digital environment” designed for gaming, media consumption and communications.
