I’m Joe Conway, CEO of Stable Kernel and creator of Aqueduct, an open source server-side framework that we’ve been fortunate to support over the past few years. We are writing this article to let our community know that we have made the difficult decision to no longer support Aqueduct.

While Aqueduct started out as a framework to help Stable Kernel engineers better serve our customers and the innovative software we build for them, it has become a framework that many of you support, contribute to, and get excited about. We are very grateful.

At Stable Kernel, we rely on trust triangulation to help us make decisions that affect the day-to-day and long-term of the company. When we made the difficult decision to no longer support Aqueduct, we turned to the guidance of the Trust Triangle and its components. Competence, kindness, and dependability.

Competency. We’ve always wanted Aqueduct to be a proven and proven framework. Our partnership with Google’s Dart team, the support of our in-house engineering teams, and your contributions within the Dart community have made this possible.

Righteousness. We thought about and built Aqueduct with the developer experience in mind, and we believe we’ve done a good job of that.

Reliability. To ensure the reliability of Aqueduct, we need to provide ongoing maintenance and support. As we move to serving our customers in different ways, we can no longer commit to the level of excellence we expect and deserve in the Dart community.

As Stable Kernel evolves, we will continue to focus on new and exciting ways to best solve our customers’ business problems, while also giving our engineers interesting technology to delve into. The open source community remains important to us, and we look forward to having a more lasting and long-term impact.

Aqueduct how sunsets might affect your work.

  • We will keep the Aqueduct Slack group active until September, and we welcome any new members to join.
  • We will keep the Aqueduct website alive, including documents and guides, for your reference.
  • We will continue to keep the source code on Github for anyone to fork.
  • Aqueduct has now stopped accepting donations
  • We recognize that the gap between Aqueduct and Dart will continue to widen over time, and we recommend migrating your project to a different platform. We are seeing promising things in the Kotlin/Springboot community.

We also want to thank the Google Dart team for being an amazing partner throughout this journey, and we can’t wait to see how Dart continues to evolve and positively impact future technologies.

We’re happy to continue our conversation with you, so here are a few ways you can keep in touch with Stable Kernel.

  • If you want to make a long-term impact, drive innovation and be part of the builder team, sign up for our talent pool — you’ll be the first to know when Stable Kernel’s future engineering jobs come online throughout the year. We also send you regular updates on company and industry news.
  • Feel free to connect me on LinkedIn — I’d love to stay in touch.

Once again, we would like to thank everyone in this community for your continued support. We are eternally grateful to you.
