Is She a bit of a siren? After reading a few issues of Joy Says Write, you get a little excited and decide to start writing!

But what? Write your own love story? Write a fantasy time-travel game novel? Or… You may feel a little out of place.

From the way of proposition, we can divide writing into two categories, one is proposition writing, such as work summary, graduation thesis, etc., the topic of proposition writing is already determined, of course, the type may be different, later we can choose some typical types to talk about the characteristics. The other kind is non-propositional writing. You feel the need to learn to write, and you want to write something.

Today we’re going to focus on how to find a topic for non-thesis writing.

Some writing teachers suggest that to practice writing, you should write as much as you think of it and as much as you see it. Just do it every day. I’m all for daily practice, but I find aimless writing exercises to be very inefficient. May be suitable for the overall development of primary and secondary school students, for us to engage in technology of the workplace, learn IT programmers, engineers and technical managers, is completely not suitable.

Before writing, we must find our own specific writing direction.

There are, of course, ways to find the right topic for your writing.

Through inward exploration and outward exploration, I can find my own writing direction and theme from the two aspects of my favorite and best at.

How to look inward?

Ask yourself this question: In the past year, what did you spend the most time on in all the time you had at your disposal?

Note that I didn’t ask, “What’s your favorite thing? “But” What do you spend the most time on?”

Why is that? Because it’s not what the mouth says, it’s what the body and actions say. For example, if someone asks you if you think you love reading, you say you love reading. But whether you have free time at work or free time after work, you don’t read books. Instead, you play mobile games, watch TV, or chat with friends over drinks… I read few books all year round. Then you’re not really a “book lover.” You don’t know what’s inside you. Just pretending to love reading.

To explore inward is to discover your true interest, and our writing will continue to be fun only when we write what we are really interested in.

If you in the past year, spend a lot of time in a game, then you must understanding of the game better than everyone else, you can write strategy game, write the experience of overcoming, and write the experience of the game products, even if you are master of programming, you can improve it, so you write these out… You write these, write will feel very interesting, others will read with relish, this is an article can write the most important basis.

But, if you say, I play games, but I suck at them, there’s nothing to write about. So what? I must say, that would be great! If you’re playing games, and you’re not delving into them, and you don’t want to share them with your fellow gamers, then you’re not that into games, and you’re just killing time.

That being the case, let’s move on to the second search: look outside. Spend lots of time preparing to write.

Let’s ask ourselves the second question: Among the various tasks involved in my studies and work, which task and which role do I enjoy the most?

Take Sixie’s own job: I’m an editor of science books. In the work of book editing, I need to carry out topic selection planning and text processing. Topic planning work is more about dealing with people, while text editing work is more about desk work, requiring meticulousness and patience. I prefer the role of planner and editor myself. If I write an article, I want to write more about planning.

In the job, in the whole task, even if you just graduated, even if you only do a small module, you should try to understand and participate in the whole project, find your own exciting point, as their own writing topic.

It’s important to find excitement by looking inward and outward.

If you find what you love most, at the same time, both inward and outward, congratulations, you are going to be happy with what you do. People think you’re a workaholic, but you just love doing what you do at work. It’s perfect. Most people aren’t so lucky. For example, maybe you love music, but your job is writing code. When deciding on a topic, Naxi suggests focusing on the excitement of your job. After all, we want to enhance our personal brand and professional competitiveness by writing about the excitement of our work, faster and more efficiently.
