Basic directory structure:
- Bin: full binary. This directory stores a number of binary files, files can be run.
- Dev: This directory stores external devices, such as disks and other cd-RoMs. External devices in it cannot be used directly and need to be mounted (similar to Windows drive assignment).
- Etc: This directory stores configuration files.
- Home: indicates the home directory of other users except the root User, similar to the User/ User directory in Windows.
- Proc: process, the directory that stores the Linux runtime processes.
- Root: This directory is the home directory of user root.
- Sbin: super binary. This directory also stores binary files that can be executed, but can only be executed by users with super permission.
- TMP: temporary. Temporary files generated when the system is running are stored in this directory.
- Usr: stores software installed by users themselves. Similar to Program Files under Windows.
- Var: directory for storing program/system log files.
- MNT: If an external device needs to be mounted, it needs to be mounted to the MNT directory.
