CES is the big Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas every January, and this year, for the first time in more than 50 years, it’s going online because of the epidemic.

According to the Consumer Technology Association of the United States, the number of companies to sign up for the exhibition will be around 4,000 to 5,000, and this year’s CES only more than 1,900 companies to participate, including the number of Chinese manufacturers is 332.

CES 2021 will feature innovative products and technologies in 42 themes, including artificial intelligence, 5G, digital health, smart cities, automobiles, and IoT. More than 100 forums will also be held during the four-day exhibition, providing a platform for partners and visitors to communicate online.

Today is the second day of CES. Let’s take a look at some of the weird and creative products at CES.

A “van” with 248 solar cells

New energy vehicles have been a hot topic in the automotive sector in recent years, and Sono Motor showed a solar-powered car at this year’s CES. The most obvious thing that makes this car different from other NEVs is that it looks like a minivan, which is the big one among electric cars.

With 248 solar cells on the roof and bonnet seamlessly integrated, the car can generate up to 35km of extra mileage per day on solar power alone.

The vehicle’s liquid-cooled battery has a capacity of 35 kWh and can travel 255 km on a single charge according to the WLTP standard. A 30-minute charge at a quick charging station can lead to an 80% charge.

It’s worth noting that the solar panels inside the car are also replaceable if the roof and hood of the car are damaged.

Sono plans to launch the car in Europe first, with a price tag of $26,000.

Artificial intelligence perfume can adjust the smell according to the mood

How can perfume and AI be combined? At this year’s CES, a company called Ninu unveiled a perfume that can be controlled with AI. Inside the cylindrical case is a recycled glass bottle containing three scent elements that the user can adjust according to his or her mood. For example, a date night might be more seductive, and summer might be sweeter. The scent of the perfume is manipulated by the app, and the AI assistant learns the user’s preferences over time.

The specific perfumes and blends are still being developed, but CEO and founder Marko Matijevi said they are working closely with Grasse’s perfumers to finalize two fragrances for men and one for women.

In addition, Marko Matijevi highlighted Ninu’s sustainability initiatives by reducing the use of materials such as recycled glass in packaging.

The scent and final design of the smart perfume are yet to be determined, and production may begin in the second half of 2021.

Smart Lipstick can be any color you like

Perfume has the intelligence, the lipstick also cannot lag behind. At CES, Saint Laurent showed off Perso, a device with three liquid lip balm boxes inside. With a built-in brush, you can mix the three colors together and choose the colors you like.

AirPop’s smart mask monitors local air quality

During the global outbreak, face masks have become a daily necessity. Now masks are getting smart, too. The Halo sensor in the AirPop mask can monitor the air quality in your current location, and alert the user which pollutants have been filtered out and when to change the filter. In active mode, it also tracks the user’s breathing per minute. These data can be queried by an APP installed on the phone. The smart masks are washable and have built-in sensors that can replace batteries.

Cool game mask and game chair, the screen can roll up and fold into the back of the chair

Gaming laptop maker Razer unveiled two concept devices at this year’s CES. The first is the Hazel project, which is a transparent plastic mask with RGB lighting and voice amplifiers.

The second, Project Brooklyn, is a large gaming chair with a screen that can be rolled up and folded into the back of the chair.

The concept looks so cool that you don’t need a desk to play a game. You don’t even need a computer or any other gaming equipment. You just need a chair.

Lenovo ink screen notebook computer

At last year’s CES, the ThinkBook Plus, a laptop with an ink screen, was unveiled with an 11-inch black and white e-ink display on the lid. This year, Lenovo introduced the ThinkBook Plus 2, which increased the size and resolution of the ink-and-ink display to 12 inches at 2560×1600 pixels, the same resolution as the IPS display on the other side.

The ThinkBook Plus 2 will be available in the first quarter of 2021, starting at $1,549.

A refrigerator that can make hockey pucks

LG showed off a new side-by-side refrigerator at this year’s CES that has a glass panel on the main door that can be tapped to turn on internal lights to see what’s inside the refrigerator.

But that’s not the fridge’s real innovation. Most specifically, it has a mechanism for producing spherical “craft ice.” The ice maker in the refrigerator can make the most common block of ice, as well as the hockey ball.

High-tech chessboard, the pieces can move by themselves

Square Off’s automated chessboard is built into an AI system that allows the pieces to move themselves across the board using a mechanized magnetic system. It can also connect to services like Chess.com and play chess with users around the world.

The board, which will be available in June, supports a variety of other board games, such as draughts, as well as chess.

Samsung ‘one-armed’ robot

Samsung showed off a home robot at this year’s CES that, unlike normal home robots, has a single robotic claw and a camera attached to its head and retractable arm that can observe the size, shape, and weight of objects around it, as well as identify their material composition.

By judging the weight and texture of objects, the robot is able to pick up and move objects with the right amount of grip, so it doesn’t break dishes when putting them in the dishwasher or accidentally break a quilt when pouring a drink.

However, it has not yet been determined when the one-armed robot will go into production.

Every year at CES, manufacturers show their hands and come up with the most innovative technology products. With artificial intelligence, 5G, and the Internet of Things adding hundreds of millions of dollars a year, more and more products are starting to become smart. On the second day of the show, we set our sights on these “weird” innovations.

CES 2021 is not over yet, and we will continue to bring you more highlights from the show.
