1. Click on the map
Point map is very straightforward, used to represent the data of each dot in a certain area (specific location), with high accuracy, and can be quickly located to the location.
Use scenario: point event distribution, can be applied in a lot of scenarios, such as a region of the distribution of bus stations, shopping malls, and so on, a little more complex like the following major accident tracking chart, can accurately and quickly locate the location of the event.
2. Line maps
From point to line. You probably don’t use line maps very much, usually because line maps are relatively difficult to draw. However, line maps sometimes contain not only space but also time, which makes them especially valuable for the analysis of special scenes.
Usage Scenarios: Distribution of cycling/driving routes, bus/subway routes, such as the New York City Taxi Routes below
3. Area/Drill Map
Line to plane. Regional maps are also very common. The most common is administrative maps, which reflect the natural and economic conditions and regional characteristics of a certain region.
Usage scenario: used for a feature distribution in different areas. It can realize the step-by-step drilling from province to city, and can also realize the color, label and other distinctions for different degrees of a certain feature. For example, in the figure below, the sales volume is drilled from province to city. The larger the sales volume, the darker the color.
4. Flow map
Flow maps are often used to visualize Origin Destination Flow data. Sources and sinks can be points or surfaces. The interaction data between the source area and the sink area is usually expressed by the line segment connecting the geometric barycenters of spatial units, and the width or color of the line represents the flow value between the source area and the sink area. Each spatial location can be a source or a sink.
Scenario: Flow map is mostly used in interregional trade, traffic flow, population migration, shopping and consumption behavior, communication and information flow, aviation routes and other scenarios.
5. Heat map
Thermal maps are used to show the weights of points within the geographical range, usually in the form of special highlighting.
Usage Scenes: The distribution of PM2.5, of course, can be not limited to the map, such as registration date, age distribution, product preference distribution, etc
