Native i3 keyboard shortcuts

MacOS commonly used keys

  • ⌘(command)
  • ⌥(option)
  • ⇧(shift)
  • ⇪(caps lock)
  • ⌃(control)
  • ↩(return)
  • ⌅(enter)

The lead key Mod is similar to the function of the Vim leader key. The lead key indicates that i3 is next.

Suggestion: It might be better to bind the Alt key. The wind key or Command key can be tied to a large number of other keys, especially if the virtual machine is involved.

Three modes of I3WM

Like VI, i3WM also has the concept of patterns:

  • Tile mode: Tiled Window Manager
  • Floating mode: Float Window Manager
  • Full screen mode: Full Screen Manager

Start/restart/close

Start the

Before you boot up and enter your password, go to the Settings button on your desktop (usually in the lower left corner) and select I3.

  • Mod⌘ + shift⇧+ r

Shut down

  • Mod⌘ + shift⇧+ e

Start the terminal

Quickly add a terminal:

  • Mod⌘ + enter↩

Window (Workspace)

Switching window

  • Mod⌘ + num

Out of the window

  • ctrl⌃ + w

Exit the current window process

  • Mod⌘ + shift⇧ + q(Contrast vim’s Q)

Open the application

Open the application application using dMenu

  • Mod⌘ + d

Type code + enter to open vscode, or type chrome + enter to select google-chrome. It will automatically split the screen vertically.

Switching multiple applications

Application switch for the same window

  • Mod⌘+ arrow keysWrite/left/please /(recommended)
  • Mod⌘ + Vim-like arrow keys j/k/l/;(Not recommended, as the vim-like key may be bound to other functions)

Window application arrangement

Floating/tiling

  • Mod⌘ + shift⇧+ spaceToggle floating and tiling.

After entering the float, the window can be dragged with the mouse. You can also enter the resize mode to adjust the size of the window

Once in resize mode, you can use arrow keys and vim-like arrow keys to resize the wide mouth.

Application arrangement: horizontal and animal
