Let’s take a look at what IPFS can do:

  1. Mount the global file system under /ipfs and /ipns: that is, all our files can be stored on it.

  2. Mount personal synchronization folder, can be automatic version management, automatic backup. This means that in the future we will have unlimited space of the web disk, do not worry about data loss, do not worry about privacy leakage (asymmetric encryption). Did you think of something? The popular “x” and “Penguin”, the foreign “Dropbox” and the “IPFS” cloud, will all pale into invalue.

  3. As an encrypted file and data sharing system. IPFS seems to be born with this capability, so file encryption and data sharing are a piece of cake.

  4. As a package management system with version control.

  5. As the root file system of the VIRTUAL machine.

  6. As an utilization manager, IPFS is used as the virtual machine’s boot file system: online operating system.

  7. As a database: Applications can directly manipulate IPFS Merkle DAG data structures, and can use IPFS version control, caching. Imagine if our database lived directly on an IPFS file system. Automatic backup, never lost, secure encryption, unlimited space, high speed connection, nice to think about. Technology changes life, how wonderful the future will be…

  8. As an encrypted communications platform, no one can eavesdrop on message traffic.

  9. As the encryption CDN, as the WEB CDN, CDN functions are all included.

  10. Permanent Web, no inaccessible links, say byebye to 404.

In fact, IPFS can do more than just these scenarios. Almost all of our computer systems are built like this.

IPFS addresses the last part for us: data storage. It can greatly reduce the cost of data storage and improve the speed of data download.

(An aside...) The law of world development tells us that whatever conforms to "sharing and improving efficiency" must be the trend of the future. Since the beginning of mankind, our world has been running around the core of "sharing"!! Why is that? Because sharing is one of the most effective ways we've found to increase resource allocation and efficiency, and it's in our DNA. I remember someone wrote a book called The Sharing Economy by Robin Chase, and in the years since the Internet took off, all kinds of people who were talking about the sharing economy (myself included) were talking about it. But in fact, the sharing economy began from the birth of human beings: the country is a largest sharing body, we want to share national defense, share security, share everything... Cities are the shared units that make up the country. You live, you work, everything is shared, you ride the subway, the plane, the bus. So "sharing" is our innate way of life, not the Internet. Philosophical Reflections on IPFS and Filecoin:

The advent of IPFS and Filecoin has dramatically increased the sharing of our data stores, and that’s value. If this is the tide, it will be irreversible.

Unlike BTC, the problem with BTC is POW’s high dependence on computing resources and high energy consumption.

How to determine the value of BTC: 1. Use Marxist economics to explain that the value of BTC is energy consumed + computational cost + undifferentiated human labor 2. Use western economics to explain: the value of BTC is the balance between supply and demand. 3. Use the popular Internet saying to explain: IP. BTC created its own IP, like gold, a huge IP.

However, BTC did not fundamentally improve our efficiency, as can be seen from the founding manifesto of BTC (Satoshi Nakamoto BTC White Paper), the reason for the birth of BTC: from fairness, but not efficiency (or can we say that BTC shared currency? I haven’t thought deeply about this yet. Maybe I will write an article separately in the future.

Unlike BTC, IPFS (Filecoin) uses POW and does not need to consume a lot of energy or rely on computing resources. In this sense, IPFS system fundamentally improves the efficiency of human beings, is a real sharing economy, and makes a big step forward in the way we use storage resources.
