“Live up to the time, the creation of non-stop, this article is participating in 2021 year-end summary essay competition”
Today is January 1st, 2022. The year 2021 is over. From freshman year to the current senior year, a year-end review is written at the end of every year, and 2021 is no exception. The most important thing for me in 2021 is autumn recruitment, so this article can also be said to be a summary of the whole autumn recruitment process.
About autumn recruit
My autumn recruitment started on September 9 and ended on November 4, lasting about two months. I have experienced pain and anxiety as well as joy and gain in these two months. I think it will always be an unforgettable period of my college life and an experience that needs to be carried by words.
Summary of delivery/interview
First of all, a summary of the delivery and interview of this autumn recruitment. I’ve invested in more than 130 companies — almost every company you can find on YouTube. The general situation is as follows (gentlemen lightly spray) :
Hang up:
- Resume hanging: Shrimp PI, Kuaishou, ALI, Pinduoduo, Ctrip, OPPO, BIGO, etc
- Written test hanging: NetEase, Meituan, ZOOM, degree xiaoman, JINGdong, 360, 4399, where to
- Interview hanging: byte, deep conviction, Baidu, mushroom street, etc
2. Not responding:
Zhihu, SF Technology, Youzan, Tencent, IQiyi, Didi, Kingsoft, etc
To drop their own pigeon (for various reasons) :
Hello Travel, Xunlei, Tucson Future, TT, FUtu, Tuhu, NIO, etc
Although I got 4~5 offers in the end, the competition situation of autumn recruitment is still obvious and fierce — many big factories fail resume or written test. Some of the big factories that enter the interview process are basically a round or two round tour.
Since it is the summary of autumn recruit, let’s start from the review preparation.
Autumn recruitment process: review preparation
Front-end knowledge system is more complex, review must have a roadmap as a guide, or learn to learn to forget where they are. My habit is to divide the knowledge system into multiple modules according to the breadth, and then divide each module into specific knowledge points according to the depth. The result is the following mind map:
Autumn recruitment process: sending resumes
Summer vacation, basically every day according to the mind map review, but the resume has not been sent out. During this period, I was very anxious and confused: can I really start to vote? Yes, but what about it? After all, Qiu Zhao only gets one chance. I would run laps around the playground at night, trying to forget all this with exhaustion, but it was just an escape.
Until September 9, when the semester began, I suddenly felt an inexplicable force driving me, telling me that I could not go on like this any longer, so I clicked the official website of 4399 to deliver my resume, which is also the first company I sent autumn recruitment. In the following three or four days, I began to send out my resume intensively, almost all the companies I could find on niuke.com. I pushed people in private letters, filled in resume information, added various autumn recruitment communication groups, and paid attention to the recruitment public account…… Repeat the process and feel like a machine on an assembly line. At the beginning, I would like to stay in Guangdong, so I only invest in guangzhou and Shenzhen companies, not so much later, anyway, first to invest again.
Autumn recruitment process: written test
The fact that I didn’t hear anything for a few days after sending in my resume made me even more anxious. Autumn recruitment is originally thousands of troops and horses through a single log bridge, all kinds of leaders randomly killed, let alone my resume is really not beautiful (no internship, no competition, no big project), will it be lost?
I found out later that many resumes had been hung up or not followed up at all. But then came the countless written exams, which made me see a little light in the darkness — literally.
Looking back on the whole autumn recruitment, I took 54 written exams, sometimes three or four in a day. After finishing one exam, I did the next one seamlessly, and my time was completely filled up in the afternoon and evening. And that day after all the written test, but also need to do a timely review, unfamiliar knowledge points to review again. Back to the dormitory to put down the bag, often is already eleven o ‘clock in the evening.
The most painful thing about the written test, especially for a late deliverer like me, is that it can fill up your schedule. Written tests at different companies are likely to conflict, at best they can be adjusted and postponed (at the risk of lagging behind others in the hiring process), or at worst they happen to be the last ones, and trade-offs are required.
Autumn recruitment process: interview
Then, slowly, came the opportunity for an interview. There was a real problem: where to go for an interview?
It’s so hard to find an interview place on campus. The classrooms were mostly occupied and the dormitory environment was very noisy, so I finally chose the library.
In the early stage, the interview was conducted in the rest area of the library. Each time, I charged the computer in advance and went there for the interview at the appointed time. If there were multiple interviews in one time period, I might have to run back and forth to ensure sufficient power. There was no need to worry about making a noise because the students were all around.
Later, there were more and more people here, and there were often no places for interviews, so most of the interviews went to the first floor of the library. The light on the ground floor is dim, but the good thing is that you don’t have to worry about interruptions, because this corner is so remote. Later, as the number of interviews increased, I felt more and more relaxed, so I did not choose a fixed place for the interview, sometimes even directly in the stairs or the canteen interview.
In my first interview, I thought it would be a small company, but I was deeply convinced at first. I am deeply convinced that I like algorithms in interviews. Moreover, it was the first interview at that time, so I was very nervous. I hardly dared to look at the camera when talking, and I faltered when answering questions. The interview turned out to be a terrible experience.
Miraculously, however, I received an email that night. Although I later realized that this was an obvious KPI behavior, it still gave me a lot of confidence at that time. So, I actually appreciate the interview.
In the following days, it was almost every day to cross the written test and interview. A lot of things are a second time, interview more, slowly will not be so nervous. I taped every interview. Playing back the tape is like going over the interview again, listening to how I thought, how I structured my words and answered the questions, and then writing down the questions and answers — this kind of replay method is very helpful for my subsequent interview. Later, the interview became more like an exchange. When I wrote my blog, I used words. When I interviewed, I had to think about how to translate words into oral expression, and how to answer questions in a logical and rational way.
From September to October, all kinds of written tests and interviews have been carried out continuously in these two months. An interview can be as short as a few minutes or as long as two or three hours. Fortunately, there were few particularly weird interviewers, most of whom were very friendly, especially Byte and Moogo Street. Byte’s interviewer is very patient and will slowly guide you through questions when they run out of ideas. Mogujie interviewers pay more attention to projects and will listen to you carefully to explain the difficulties in the project, analyze with you, and even refute your inadequates in thinking.
Autumn recruitment process: offer
The first OC company was Hikvision. After the meeting, I spent about ten days in the pool, refreshing the status code of the official website every day, but I did not see the update. When I thought I was dead, I finally received an email signing a q&A. Although it was not a formal letter of intent, it was basically stable. At that time, it was quite exciting. After so many interviews, Qiu Zhao finally got his first OC.
After the signing session, Haikang gave three days to consider whether to sign both sides. Should I sign Hikon or not? Those three days were probably the most agonizing I’ve ever had. I fell into a tangle and hesitation, to the last day, or decided to sign the first again, anyway, the two sides still have a way out. After signing also dare not idle, continue the written test and interview……
About half a month passed after that. Finally, in the morning of October 26, I received a call from Mioc after taking the express delivery. Hr spoke very quickly. After the call, I felt relieved and realized that I had finally landed after a month of swimming in the pool.
Should breach two parties to millet? I was back in my old agonizing state, with countless trade-offs. After about a week, I made a decision:
To millet
From the perspective of career development, working for Xiaomi is a better choice. What about Beijing? Strange, distant, busy and stressed…… But I think, these are life must experience, go to Beijing will meet more interesting souls, have more opportunities, and will develop better.
Later, I received offers from other companies one after another, but the pool of 58 was so deep that I could not wait any longer (the process of 58 was not even finished at the time of writing this article). Until the beginning of November, the pigeon interview is pigeon, my autumn recruit also officially ended.
Two months later, autumn Recruitment came to an end, and the whole process was both stressful and surprising. In the autumn recruitment group, I also met some interesting friends. We would exchange ideas and make fun of autumn recruitment in the group every day. In hindsight, this may have been a curious way to relieve the pressure, but at least Qiu wasn’t alone.
Qiu Zhao’s experience and lessons
Finally, I thought I could share some of my own experiences and lessons. If you’re reading this and you’re facing a fall in the future, it might help.
Degree is not the decisive factor.
A good degree is certainly helpful in job hunting, whether it is the initial resume screening or the final comprehensive ranking, degree will play an important role. But is there no way out without a good degree? And it isn’t. Take the autumn Recruit group I was in for example, many BAT masters are not from 985 or 211, which shows that ordinary undergraduate students are not short of really good people. My school is only a double-non-undergraduate, not even a science and engineering college, but there are also a lot of students working in BAT Factory around me, I really think they are very good. Therefore, do not blindly tangle with the academic issues, to worry about the time to improve themselves, this is the most practical.
The sooner you’re ready, the better.
It’s true that the computer industry is very hectic, but I actually hate to pigeonhole everything about early preparation. Every time someone in the group sees someone learning something advanced in their freshman year or sophomore year, or starting an internship, they’ll say, “Are young people like that these days?” But they are just putting their time and energy into things with real returns in advance, just like preparing for the college entrance examination when they were in senior one. This is prescient and has nothing to do with the exam. Early awakening, early preparation, is certainly no harm.
So what should you prepare? You should have at least one or two of these things that you can put on your resume: basics, algorithms, projects, internships, competitions.
Spend your time on the things that really matter.
A lot of college courses are just for credit, and even the major courses may not teach you anything real. Rather than flunking, spend your time on the things that really matter and are relevant to your job search — laying the groundwork, honing your algorithms, and working on your project…… There’s no need to add a club, because it’s probably just a way for you to meet new people, and beyond that it’s hard to learn anything valuable, let alone put those activities on your resume. Of course, except the laboratory and ACM Society, these two still have to participate, there are great benefits.
Grasp the important time nodes, do not hesitate all the time.
I should be regarded as a negative example, because I did not grasp the time here, resulting in a lot of missed opportunities
- The first time point is spring recruitment in the second semester of junior year. The recruitment is for summer internship, and the delivery can start around March. A summer internship can (possibly) fill a gap in a personal project, and it can also look good on your resume. Most importantly, this is a very good opportunity to enter a big factory. If it goes smoothly, you can get a full-time job, which means that you have already found a job while others are still busy with autumn recruitment.
- The second time point is the advance approval of autumn recruitment, and the delivery can start around July and August. Written examination itself can screen out a lot of people, and many companies advance approval is free of written examination, the difficulty will be lower than formal approval. And the results of the early batch usually do not affect the formal batch, so you have a chance to revive.
- The third time point is the official approval of the autumn recruitment, and the delivery can start around August or September. If spring and autumn recruitment advance batch are not cast, then the formal approval must take action, can not be delayed — do not think that spring recruitment has a chance, spring recruitment hc will be relatively much less.
- The fourth time point is the spring recruitment recruitment, which can be delivered around March (basically the same time period as the spring recruitment summer internship in the junior year). Some companies may not be fully employed in the autumn recruitment, so the remaining HC will be put into the spring recruitment. However, you have to realize that most companies have already filled their positions in the autumn recruitment. Even if they are not filled, there are not many vacancies. Meanwhile, you have to compete with students who failed in the postgraduate entrance exam or the autumn recruitment, which is quite difficult. Not to mention you may have to deal with papers, senior projects, etc., which adds to the pressure. So it’s best to get the job search done in autumn rather than spring.
No one is really ready to play, except the big guys. Start applying when the time is right. Don’t hesitate. Don’t think, “I’ll review a little more and apply when I’m ready.” It’s unrealistic and risky. If you send out your resume late, you will be behind in the process, for example, everyone else is interviewing, you are still waiting for the written test, others have already interviewed, you are still in the process. If a lot of good people post before you, and they get hired, you may be running out of HC because the process is behind you. There is a very important thing, the first resume can first enter the process, and other late open autumn recruitment of the company’s process stagger. If you’re late, it’s easy to get caught up in other companies’ processes, resulting in lots of written tests and interviews that can be exhausting.
About resume writing, internal promotion, written tests and interviews.
Resume preparation can refer to the station to share some articles, or consult some experienced friends. Here are my resume writing tips (this is my opinion only) :
1) Appearance: Keep it simple and clean, don’t use fancy templates, one to two pages long.
2) Typesetting: the structure is clear and compact, the font is clear in thickness, and some parts can be appropriately highlighted (it is recommended that the entire resume only appear in black and bright colors). Pay attention to spelling and case of technical terms.
3) Content: Including basic personal information, applied position, skills and specialties, project experience, internship experience, competition experience, award experience. If you have the habit of blogging, or participated in the XX open source project, you can write, these are highlights. Student association activity, university course did not write go up, have gather together the suspicion of word number. Personal evaluation can be written but not written, do not say what bear hardships and stand hard work, steadfast work and so on, a little empty.
Resume written directly to the official website delivery on the line, there are internal push code can be filled. In fact, the role of internal push is not very big, internal push is also to the written test and interview (there is no written test, but very few), the process is not changed. I think its main purpose is to facilitate tracking the progress of the interview. Sometimes the official website may not update your interview results so quickly, so you can directly consult the internal promoter to reduce unnecessary waiting.
During this period, it is recommended to pay attention to the company’s recruitment official account, and join some official/civil autumn recruitment communication groups, so as to learn the important recruitment information in the first time and prevent the occurrence of bad information. If the process has not been updated for a long time, you can also consult hr in the group.
Then came the written test. The written test of the r&d post is basically written in Niuke or Sicode (a few use their own platform). The questions are mainly multiple choice and algorithm questions, and the length is generally one to two hours.
Here are some interview tips:
- The location of the interview is very important, so it’s best to find a quiet place where you can’t be disturbed by others
- Stay Connected (I’m embarrassed to think of an interview where I lost my Internet connection while I was writing an essay)
- Don’t start with a long introduction (about a minute for me) and keep it brief
- Don’t rush to answer the question, first think about which piece of knowledge the question is related to, form a general answer structure, and then express it in clear language. Also do not answer in one breath additionally, perhaps pull a few irrelevant things, have the suspicion that carry back a topic
- If you can’t, just say so. Don’t hemming and hawing for too long. Of course, saying something like, “I don’t know XXX, but I know YYy” can steer the interviewer’s questions in a direction you’re familiar with
- In addition to asking department business and technology stack, you can also ask for learning advice
As for the interview, an interview will be written later, mainly summarizing some interview experiences of Autumn recruitment.
Last but not least: never be all in one company. If a lot of people have not come out at the end of the autumn recruitment interview results, that the company pool is very deep, is sorting. The risk is even greater if the offer is distributed in batches, where it is more likely that the first person will accept the offer and the second person will not be able to take it. In short, don’t be all in, you should first sign a two – or three-party guarantee from another company. There is a price to be paid for breaking an agreement, but there is no turning back.
Writing & Community
After the autumn recruitment, I felt empty in my heart. The dust of job hunting was settled, but I felt inexplicable emptiness, just like I suddenly became confused after finishing the RPG game. Speaking of which, I have tried to play video games to relax after autumn recruit, but I always quit the game after 10 minutes. I never feel that way again (maybe I am too old to love games?) . Maybe I should learn something and write an article to make my life more fulfilling.
When it comes to writing essays, there are fewer of them this year than before, mainly because they are too busy revising and interviewing to learn anything new. He wrote three nuggets columns:
On network Protocol
Sorted out some notes on network protocol and Web security for easy review and reference.
Explore the principle of JavaScript native methods
Handwritten implementation of JavaScript common API, each article will be introduced in detail first principle, and then step by step handwritten.
TypeScript official document translation
After graduation, I started to learn TypeScript. However, the Chinese version of TypeScript on the Internet was very old, so I decided to translate official documents while learning. At present, I have finished translating all the Handbook of the document, which took a month. I am very tired, but I am glad that I can stick to it. If it is helpful to you, please click STAR. This is the project address.
There is a lot of content in the official documents, and I will continue to improve the translation of other parts when I have time later.
Some creative data:
On the community side, I helped proofread some articles in the Nuggets Translation project this year. A few days ago, I was surprised to find that the best Translator of the year was included in the list:
Come to think of it, joining the Nuggets translation program was already a freshman year. I don’t know if I have time to get involved in the community after work.
life
The best thing about your relationship this year is that you are finally with someone you like. In college, I had a few chances to get out of a relationship and briefly dated for a few months, but it always ended badly. My girlfriend and I have known each other for a long time. We have had our ups and downs, misunderstandings and contradictions, but we are happy to finally get together. I hope that in the future, we can go on for a long time.
The last
College time really flies, from the summer after the end of the college entrance examination to the first HTML tag, now is about to say goodbye to the college campus life, start the career of moving bricks, four years has almost passed in the blink of an eye. The new 2022, wish all the best for yourself and those around you, go 🎉🎉🎉!
