preface
Again to the end of the year, in the Nuggets to see many friends of the annual essay, very encouraged.
I also want to take this opportunity to record my growth this year.
If my growth can enlighten you, it is my honor to ^_^.
1. Distinguish between purpose and method
I remember when I was in college, I used to make a habit of listening to English for one hour every day, not because I like listening, but because I think I can improve my English.
If one day I didn’t want to listen because I was lazy, the next day I would be anxious and feel like failure. Later, feel too difficult to adhere to, simply give up, give up completely.
Looking back on it now, I can’t remember how many days I lasted, let alone how much I gained or grew.
But why did you feel so strongly that it had to be done?
I probably heard some senior students with excellent academic performance say that listening to English every day can improve English scores, and good English can bring us more employment opportunities, so I unconsciously associate listening to English with better employment opportunities. Then force yourself to do things you don’t like.
If I had known clearly that my goal was to have better employment opportunities, I would have been able to distinguish whether my senior’s advice was suitable for me, so as to avoid some detdetments. After all, there are better and more suitable ways to achieve better employment opportunities, such as learning specialized courses well and practicing in advance.
In our work life, we often fall into the vortex of means as ends.
Hearing a certain course recommended by the big man, he would take that course as the goal, spend time to learn, and finally learn to find that it is not what he wants, a waste of time.
So think carefully before setting yourself a goal:
-
Do you really need to do this?
-
Why am I doing this?
-
What kind of desire am I fulfilling by doing this?
-
What is the priority of this desire among all my desires?
The essence of the engineer is to explore the most appropriate compromise
This sentence comes from yu Xinjie, a teacher from Tsinghua University, who said in the first lesson of Circuit Principle:
The essence difference between engineering courses and science courses is that the essence of science courses is to explore the single ultimate truth, and the essence of engineering courses is to explore the most appropriate compromise.
This sentence has a deep influence on me.
I have found that many of my peers, including myself, put too much emphasis on the importance of technology (this is not to say that technology is not important).
Let me give you an example.
In one project, I used The Promise finally, and later found that finally was compatible and caused errors under ios 10.3 and Firefox 57. For details, see: github.com/zloirock/co…
It was an emergency, it was about to go live, and I would kill Finally without thinking of a better solution.
After the project, I discussed this problem with my colleague. He said that my solution was very low and he could use plug-in + Babel to solve it. At that moment I suddenly realized, oh, why I can’t think of, it seems that MY skills are not enough.
Later, I thought it over.
Let’s assume that MY knowledge is broad enough to know that there are two ways to solve the above problem (this is just an assumption, not a specific discussion of the solution) :
- Don’t have to
- Use plug-ins to solve.
How do we choose? I believe most people would prefer the second usage.
Why do we always assume that plugins are better? Why are we always chasing new and better technologies? Is it because it means we know a lot? Rich in knowledge?
But why do we learn technology?
If it’s a quest for better technology, to make as big a contribution as someone like the father of Linux, it’s like doing science, and we’re trying to find the only truth.
But what if we learn technology to make money, to solve problems at work, to make better products? Then we have to pursue the best compromise. Because making a better product will involve many factors, time, manpower, material resources, we need to measure, to find the most appropriate method.
I will not necessarily become a better myself, my tomorrow will not necessarily be better
It’s a sad statement, but it could not be truer.
Between July and September, I fell into a frenzy of anxiety and took a depression test, which reminded me of moderate depression. I shared the results with a few of my close friends, and they didn’t even believe that I, an optimistic person, had fallen into depression.
The development of the Internet, let us know a lot of their own unimaginable god, but also let more people become not confident and inferiority. At that time, the question I often thought was, what’s the point of living? The universe is so big, what is the earth, the earth is so big, what is the man?
One day after work, I was walking on the road, reflecting on my life in the past few years. Although I set some flags at the beginning of each year and realized many of them, my life has not changed greatly in essence. I still go to work and come off work every day. My salary has not changed much, my figure has not become better, and my friends are still the same.
So, the future we believe in every year is better, is it really better?
The answer is obvious.
Only a handful of people do better. Not all of us are happier, prettier or richer as time goes on. On the other hand, most of us lose sight of each other.
So why do we all think we’re better off?
I think it’s because we have to believe in order to survive. But you can’t have a better future just by believing. If someone has done it better, there must be a better basis, and there must be a better path for you.
How to find the path?
Here are some of the methods I’ve summarized for your reference only.
The first step is to know what you like in the big picture.
Try answering these questions:
-
What was your happiest day growing up?
-
Think back to when you did those things and you felt happy?
-
What do these things have in common?
For example, while everything makes you happy is different, it is especially good to feel that you are making progress, helping others, or being recognized for your worth
The second step, from the general direction, set specific goals to find repeatable, actionable things.
In the first step, some people may think, I am very happy when I find money, I am very happy when I receive unexpected gifts from others, and the nature of these is “unexpected happiness”, while “unexpected” cannot be controlled by oneself, so it is not operable.
For example, I feel happy when I feel I’m making progress. So learning a skill is a joy that can be repeated.
Step three: Find the specific approach that works best for you
For example, learning will make you happy. You need to find the skills you most want to learn. If you don’t have a skill that interests you, give yourself some time. Sign up for a class audition, or do some online research on a subject.
Step 4: Quantify your goals
Itemize everything, set better quantified goals, and prepare separately. The more prepared you are, the more likely it is that you will get better. Otherwise, your “better self” is a self-delusion and no reason to believe in it.
Afterword.
Finally, my other takeaways from 2019
In the work
Went to Beijing
Go to xiamen
I met my idol Hu Ge
I ran my first marathon
Very satisfied and happy.
I have written more than 2000 words unconsciously, and the whole article is not much related to specific technology. However, I am very happy to share my growth through the platform of Digging Gold, hoping to give a little inspiration to my friends.
