In October 2017, UCloud, a leading neutral cloud computing vendor in China, formally entered into cooperation with PingCAP, the TiDB team of the domestic open source and distributed NewSQL database. Both parties will work together to gradually launch Cloud TiDB, a new generation of Cloud version of TiDB, in UCloud global data center.

With the launch of Cloud TiDB, UCloud’s database product line has been further enriched, and it can provide more database solutions for the majority of users to meet the diversified business requirements in the era of big data.

As the first open source new distributed database company in China, PingCAP has been committed to the implementation of cutting-edge technology innovation in the field of infrastructure. Its independently developed distributed database product TiDB is an online transaction processing/online analysis processing (HTAP: Hybrid Transactional/Analytical Processing databases are used by dozens of leading companies in various industries, including Internet, gaming, finance, government, telecommunications, manufacturing, etc. Therefore, the technology adaptation capability of multi-industry scenarios makes it more possible to combine products with cloud platforms.

The Cloud TiDB jointly released by the two parties is a distributed Cloud database product that supports BOTH OLTP and OLAP scenarios based on TiDB, combined with ULB (Cloud load balancing) and VPC. The product features one-button horizontal scaling, strong consistency of multi-copy data security, distributed transactions, remote multi-activity and other features. It is compatible with MySQL protocol and ecology, convenient migration, and extremely low operation and maintenance costs.

Horizontal elastic extension

Distributed TiDB can scale seamlessly horizontally as user data grows, and the application layer does not need to care about storage capacity and throughput by simply adding machines to meet business growth needs. Cloud TiDB dynamically adjusts load based on storage, network, and distance factors to ensure optimal read/write performance.

Fault recovery and remote live

TiDB uses multiple replicas for data storage and relies on the industry’s most advanced Raft distributed consistency algorithm to ensure 100% strong data consistency and high availability. Replicas can be deployed in different data centers in different regions. When the primary replicas fail, they are automatically switched over without manual intervention. This ensures service continuity and implements remote replication in a real sense.

Consistent distributed transactions

Both parties have done a lot of work on TiDB’s upper cloud solution, solving tenant isolation, resource scheduling, network connectivity and other problems.
