This isn’t the first article where someone might say, “XXX, if you want to talk, please talk seriously.” But, who let now strange so much?
In the past, I only felt that being a stock critic was the happiest occupation, and the real prosperity was guaranteed. No matter the stock market went up and down, the spotlight was always focused on them and the right of discourse was always controlled by them. However, after the birth of “We media”, I am afraid that the happiness of “We media” will be greater than that of stock critics. No matter what social events are near, far away, tragic or comic, “We media” will benefit from them. Reading their articles, I often feel that every year is a great change unseen in five thousand years, every day is the top of the tide, and everywhere is the ultimate law of human history.
At the beginning, many people (including me) would be deceived, wondering how these we-media writers were so powerful and maneuverable. Read more and you’ll find that most writers are nothing more than contemporary cheng Niaojin, coming and going with just a few tricks: looking for clues, catching bits and pieces, turning them into snakelike lines, and finally sublimating them into big words.
The latest hot issue is the layoffs in Oracle’s R&d center in China, especially when an employee pulls up a banner, it is inevitable that we media (unconscientious) will “report” some. If you were a little bolder, a little more brazen, and clearly marked “not worthy of sympathy”, you could certainly reap a surge of traffic.
However, if you really have the “critical thinking” that we media usually praise, you will find that such reports are actually full of problems, riddled with holes, and cannot stand close scrutiny. There are plenty of problems to be found in the “unsympathetic” tone of the lay-offs.
First and most fundamentally, these so-called “reports” don’t interview anyone who pulls up a banner, they just need to look at a screenshot to write a long story. The author doesn’t even have records of wechat conversations or group chats. He doesn’t know the people’s working conditions or their specific demands. He concludes that in normal times, these people are “waiting for death”, but now they are “living in happiness without knowing good fortune”. From this point of view, these “media” seem to want no basic ethics – don’t hide behind the media’s right to interview, because there is no “right to interview” to do these things.
Second, it is not clear that Oracle China is not an independent entity, and the local business is not closed loop. In other words, the China R&D center does not directly support local business in China. So while Oracle’s Business in China is not going well, it’s lazy to explain the layoffs directly. Amazon’s E-commerce operations in China were closed and local teams laid off because many of the positions directly supported the local operations; Google’s Local operations in China are largely negligible, but the Chinese r&d team will not be completely disbanded.
Third, I used some interview feedback as examples. Unfortunately, most of the interview feedback was condescending, saying that they had “gone round the interview and forgot all the basics”. In fact, in any stable operation of the company, there are only a few people who can access the core business and do pioneering work. A considerable number of people are doing things according to the rules, doing their own familiar work. From the perspective of the company, such arrangement is the most stable and safest. Besides, Oracle’s technology stack is really different from the popular technology stack in China. If you are not fully prepared, it is understandable that you cannot answer in the interview.
In addition to foreign Oracle, there are also many engineers in BAT who are only familiar with their company’s specific technology and process, which does not prevent them from making contributions to the company. What’s more, professional interviewers should keep their heads down, and condescending to a candidate is not something to be praised for. Going further, if your interviewer is going to wonder “how it works” instead of asking “why it works”, you’re going to be doing the same thing and not understanding the world.
Fourth, these layoffs are often the result of a game of thrones, so don’t play the small game or analyze trends to bluff. For such companies, most layoff packages are apportion and then adjusted based on the situation (i.e., rebound pressure). Areas where the interests of employees are well safeguarded tend to remove some targets for layoffs, while areas where the interests of employees are poorly safeguarded tend to bear more blame.
So this kind of job cuts, has always been less touch cake in Europe and the United States team, Chinese team the flag and more – I have said before about 996, the more you don’t speak for themselves become more passive and in the workplace, “work hard and will have a good result” is just wishful thinking of the naive, oneself after all can only rely on themselves to maintain the rights and interests. In this sense, many take this opportunity to “correct the name of 996” argument, is really lifted a rock hit his feet.
Undeniably, “Grass snake grey line – micro words” is now a lot of we media writing tricks: as long as you know the so-called “big trend” (or “stereotype”), you can put all kinds of phenomena on. Whether there is a logical fault, whether there is a general law in individual phenomena, whether there is sufficient investigation and argument in the writing, do not care at all — of course, a brave individual can imagine a better play.
Such treatment of general topics, when the conversation after dinner, but also understandable. But I have always felt that we ought to retain some decency and some sympathy for the unfortunate. If only with relish in looking on and gloating, keen to prove their “always right”, even pained to paint its attainments, packaging a ups and downs of the story, of course, traffic is there, conscience is indeed “greatly dropped bad”.
Those of you who have read the previous article know that I have refuted the various unreliable arguments in defense of 996. I have always supported the idea that if you can’t stand 996, you should shout out and fight for your rights. However, some time ago, the assistant president of Ant Financial passed away due to illness. Some people didn’t even know the person involved and didn’t even know the cause of the illness, so they dared to say excitedly: “Look, this is the blessing of 996”, I can only say: poor job!
