Today is Programmer’s Day 1024.
In the few short years since the holiday was created, programmers have become one of the most prolific joke groups on the web. But I feel more and more deeply that if I had to ask who is the most lovable person in this era, it must be our programmers.
Some people may disagree: Are you talking about those “code farmers”?
They look so dull, sloppy, weird, wear tacky plaid shirts, stay home and play video games when they work overtime, can’t find a girlfriend, and are going bald at a young age…
Their work is neither noble nor fashionable. They write code every day like a machine, without temperature. They can’t even tell what is useful, but there are always bugs to catch and patches to make.
These lovely programmers may not even realize what a wonderful life the code they’ve been writing over the years has been.
Their code is full of flaws, but it warms the world
Many people feel that in this information age with ubiquitous Internet, people are becoming more and more estranged from each other, the society is becoming more and more impetuous, and the world is becoming more and more indifferent. The world, it seems, is built from the lines of code that programmers type.
Perhaps we do not know that every ordinary young man who chooses to be a programmer has dreamed of bringing beauty and surprise to the world with his own code. Then on a cold midnight, staring at the lonely street lamp downstairs, I suddenly realized that the code I had been working overtime and staying up late every day was still two galaxies away from the beautiful world:
- A galaxy called the “Endless Bug”
- The other galaxy is called “endless demand”.
Even so, I would like to tell everyone that it is this bug-filled code, which even programmers despise, that humanizes cold zeros and ones. They make us feel warm and caring in an indifferent world.
There was a programmer who worked on a project that was once looked down upon by the entire industry, and almost everyone who used that system said it was hard to use. He himself felt that management was chaotic and dark, that the money was in someone’s pocket, that the code was being handled to get the job done, and that there were so many bugs that weren’t fixed…
The system, called 12306, allows people across China to buy train tickets home with their own hands, without being held up by scalpers and fake tickets.
There was a programmer who wrote code to send text messages to everyone’s cell phones. Every relative and friend who knew laughed and said, “You are the one who makes harassing text messages.” He was embarrassed every time.
But he may not have thought that, in addition to advertisements and harassment, the system he made may also send out a sound of peace from his relatives, a confession of his lover, or a copy of the holiday wishes from friends. Even the formulaic birthday wishes of banks, operators and businesses have brought comfort to countless lonely souls.
Lovely programmers, perhaps their every line of code has its own temperature, regardless of their heart is far away or poor, in fact, are using their own code, changing the world.
Their image is always misunderstood because it is more real and pure
Programmers are a group with strange labels.
In the eyes of outsiders, programmers live slovenly, disheveled, do not care about hygiene, and do not understand clothing and aesthetics. In addition to the plaid shirt, the dress image is the company culture shirt, big shorts and slippers.
In fact, many programmers have very good cultural accomplishment and aesthetic taste, but when working, they think the most important thing is to make themselves comfortable, so they don’t care about fashion and elegant image. If you have time to pander to outsiders, you might as well check your code for bugs.
Programmers outside of work, especially those born in the 1990s and 2000s, are likely to be a sophisticated fashionista. It’s just that outsiders rarely see them not working.
From a long time ago, programmers were considered to be the face of straight male cancer, low in emotional intelligence, unable to speak, and unable to please girls. The only difference between then and now is that programmers go from being straight diaos making $5,000 a month to P8 straight guys making $1 million a year.
Few programmers want to be called “straight,” though they often do. For programmers who are used to code logic, it’s not that they lack emotional intelligence, it’s just that the logic of the world is the way it is, and they don’t need to be euphemistic for you. It’s not that they don’t understand sweet talk, they just think it’s more meaningful to do something tangible for you.
Although the overall salary of programmers has increased significantly in recent years, very few programmers earn more than 20K a month. Even if is in ali Tencent this kind of big factory, also is not just grab a programmer to have millions of annual salary. Most programmers in first-tier cities earn more than 10,000 yuan a month, and there are still many programmers who earn thousands of yuan a month to survive.
To outsiders, programmers are boring, can’t chat, always talk to death. It’s just that programmers spend most of their time working with code and their peers, and are more accustomed to using their own language, so if outsiders don’t understand their language, they can’t understand their wit and humor. Few programmers are worthy of accommodating each other’s language habits. You don’t understand what I’m saying, and I don’t have the energy to care how you feel.
There are many other mislabels attached to programmers, such as being inept, not exercising, fixing computers and not taking pictures.
But programmers don’t seem to mind being misunderstood at all, or perhaps they don’t feel misunderstood at all. Because programmers have a very simple and pure way of looking at the world: what is real and logical is acceptable.
They feel that, from a logical point of view, programmers do seem to fit the label. It’s just that what they think of as “fit” is not the same thing as what outsiders think of them.
Their youth has long been overdrawn, but they do not want to give up the dream in the heart
At only 35, most programmers’ careers are probably over.
From 996 to ICU, there are many programmers whose health is worse than they know.
Programmer’s youth, in a short ten years after, perhaps only left the world at a loss, and overdraw a healthy body.
Being able to continue to earn money and support a family after the age of 35 is a common career expectation for most programmers. In order to achieve this small goal, they work overtime day after day, treat ten years as twenty years, and gamble every chance to make the first bucket of gold by changing jobs and starting businesses again and again.
Don’t drop dead on a keyboard until you’re 35 and financially free. Every programmer has probably crossed his or her mind at one time or another.
A few programmers, through their talent, hard work and luck, have landed enviable positions and salaries at some of the biggest Internet companies, but they are still working overtime and staying up late with the newcomers.
It’s not that they don’t want to stop and rest, it’s just that their dreams never really come true. They may be gods in the eyes of newcomers, but in their own eyes, they still see buggy code everywhere, architectures that are never perfect, and a world that is constantly improving and changing.
Dear friends, please take good care of the programmers around you, they are indeed the most lovely people in this era!
Happy holiday to all programmers today, and 1024 blessings to product, design, test, operations, and other IT people who work with programmers. Thank you for your work to fill this digital age with dreams of freedom and warmth of humanity.
