In early 2018, I just opened up a recruiting app to see what was going on, and my resume was multiplied by five. Then, with the attitude of try and try, I didn’t expect to really pass and take the offer of ants. I didn’t know it was the insurance front end team at the time, and EVEN before I joined, I didn’t know what the business was. Looking back, I was really lucky to join a team that happened to be in a very fast growing business. Since I joined the team at the beginning of 18 years, the scale of the front end has grown from about 10 people to more than 60 people now. I was promoted in two years and became a team TL, with a group of extremely smart and hardworking brothers and sisters.
Up to now, insurance is still in the rapid development stage, and the size of the team is still growing rapidly. The insurance front-end team is still worth joining for a long time. I’m going to talk about it in a couple of ways.
Broad insurance prospects
Business technical team. If the business dies, the technical team dies. At the extreme, some companies have recently laid off workers as a result of national policies. If the business is tepid, the technical team will also fall into the state of involume. Because the 0-1 thing is gone, everyone is doing stable, similar things, and it’s hard to find breakthroughs, so there’s technological stagnation, cut-throat competition, and team seniority.
But the prospects for insurance business are very broad. There are a lot of market research reports on the Internet. In 2020, the total insurance market will be about 4.5 trillion yuan, and it is still growing steadily. Why is it going to grow steadily? The core is that the country is still developing and people’s income is still rising. However, at present, the insurance density (insurance cost per capita) and insurance depth (proportion of insurance premium income in GDP) in China are still far away from developed countries, and even several times the world average level.
In terms of national policies, the insurance industry has been encouraged to develop healthily and steadily to catch up with developed countries. In January 2020, the CBRC, together with 13 departments, issued the Opinions on Promoting the Development of Commercial Insurance in the Field of Social Services. Suggestions in the document, such as “expanding the supply of commercial health insurance”, “releasing the consumption potential of commercial insurance in other social services” and “improving the insurance market system”, represent the country’s support for the development of the insurance industry.
Therefore, the insurance industry is destined for long-term development and growth in terms of both foreign and domestic policies.

This was done in childhood, and the imagination of the future is enormous.
Therefore, both the development of insurance itself and the development of Internet insurance have broad prospects at present. Therefore, taking advantage of the development of the insurance business in the east, our team was able to expand rapidly in these years.
Service soil thick
Business is growing fast, so the team is growing fast. However, if the team blindly develops without precipitation and without technical grasp, there will only be a bunch of P6 working on business needs in the end, without precipitation of technology, the growth of personnel will be stagnant and fall into a false prosperity. Of course, who wouldn’t want everyone to have a technical grasp? However, in many businesses, because the soil is not thick enough, there is no place for the front-end to do the core output.
Many people will wonder why we need more than 60 front ends and more. This is because many people do not know much about insurance. If they do, they may have seen some medical insurance advertisements on Tiktok or Alipay and clicked to buy them, or joined Mutual treasure. I have little understanding of the overall insurance business. In fact, insurance is a very thick business.
First of all, there are many types and products of insurance. Health insurance medical insurance, serious disease insurance, cancer insurance; Life insurance annuity, education fund, fixed life expectancy, lifelong life expectancy, insurance; Property insurance bank card insurance, home property insurance, auto insurance; And recently innovative pet insurance and so on and so forth. With so many products, if every product needs to be developed in ProCode, the cost will be very high. It is true that in the early stage, we also had a variety of staff to solve the problem, but with the increasing number of products, it was no longer possible to meet the business demands solely by human resources, so we derived the ability to build products, and complemented by one-stop operation and data analysis capabilities of thousands of faces. Then evolved a commercial insurance center dominated by the front end and centered on construction.
** The second is that the insurance service link is very long. ** Different from the sale of general goods, insurance requires a lot of after-sales service. Basically all insurance has link of compensate, some still have period of extension, renew protect, add protect to wait. There’s also some insurance, like medical insurance, and there may be some health services like distant consultations. Offline, we may have insurance agents to consult and assist. What about online? This in turn requires us to build a series of supporting Settings and capabilities.
And insurance can connect a lot of vertical ecology. There are many scenes like insurance. For example, pet insurance enables us to open pet ecology and connect offline pet services. Health insurance allows us to open up the health ecology, can connect some online consultation, online pharmacy and other services.
In short, insurance is an area with very thick business soil, and it is also an area destined for long-term development. And the business of fertilizing soil is bound to produce great technology.
Technical challenges
Innovation insurance relies on front-end technology. As I said earlier, there need to be more new models for Internet insurance. Ant’s pet insurance is a classic example. In the past, the biggest problem with pet insurance was how to identify pets, because many cats and dogs looked alike. Internet insurance, in particular, is prone to false claims if judged only by photos. With the advent of nose print recognition technology, this problem has been solved. A pet’s nose print is like a human’s fingerprint. Every cat or dog’s nose print is different. By scanning the nasal prints, we can make a pet identification.
So how does the user scan the nose print? It must be through the camera in the user’s hand. But pets aren’t dead, and it’s not that easy to take a picture of a pet’s nose. It’s very likely that the photo will be burnt with the slightest movement of the pet and there will be no useful information. Therefore, we need to build a real-time image information recognition capability on the end, through the end of the intelligence to determine whether the image in the current camera meets the requirements of nose print recognition, if so, it will be automatically taken. At the same time, because pet insurance has cross-terminal demands (alipay, Taobao and other terminals), we need to run the terminal intelligent engine on the Web end instead of the Native end. This process requires us to optimize and expand the capabilities of TensorFlow.js. This series of things, front-end students in image recognition, TF.js and other fields launched a huge technical challenge.
The pet snout technology was also demonstrated at the 2020 Bund conference in Shanghai. In addition to pet insurance, broken screen insurance, bank card insurance, some types of insurance claim data upload also use the ability of smart camera.
In fact, the business attribute of insurance is destined to need to do a lot of construction in the field of human-computer interaction. Because the subject matter of most insurance is real goods or people. This requires the perception of reality through mobile phones, and the process requires human-computer interaction. How to have a better human-computer interaction experience is a technical challenge to the front end.
In addition to the innovation of insurance products, there is also the innovation of sales model and service experience, which I will not expand here. The core is that every product innovation challenges technology. Overcoming these challenges is true growth.
Good team atmosphere
The team atmosphere is divided into two parts, one is the technical atmosphere, the other is the working atmosphere.
In terms of technical atmosphere, our team has always emphasized the need for technical growth and not immersed in low-level repetitive work. Like getting bogged down in simple business requirements. Be sure to set aside 30% of your time for learning, thinking, exploring and innovating. Of course, you can’t just throw it in and make wheels. Either it really helps people to be more productive, or it really helps the business solve its existing business pain point. The core is really leveraging the value of our technology.
So in the process, we also have a lot of technical products or technical capabilities that are attached to the business. Such as the smart camera mentioned above; Remix (open source version Remax), a small program designed to solve React; To solve the commercial insurance products on the new commercial insurance in Taiwan; The ability of BFF interface orchestration to solve the problem of BFF efficiency; For example, in order to solve the fine marketing and do thousands of thousands of face marketing construction and so on.
Emphasis is also placed on personal summary and output. My supervisor Quanzhan and I have also been leading by example, continuing to do fine output in the Intranet language finch, often listed in the language finch selection. Once Su Qian said to me, “There is not a TL you can’t write.” Other students in the team also summarized and shared with the overall atmosphere. One of our interns recently received a thumbs-up from a front-end P9 for a thought article.In addition to the technical atmosphere, we have always emphasized taking life seriously. Take our group as an example, I have been trying to lead the students in my group to practice serious life. After the year-end bonus in April this year, I invited nine people from our group to take a bath in Qushui Lanting (I also invited one last year). Of course, other students also influence each other. For example, Starfire will study food, often take us to see some high-end food places. Gu Yan is an avid skier, so he would drive us directly to the indoor ski resort in Shaoxing on a free weekday evening. Ali’s outing season is from June to August every year. This year, our group directly chose a self-drive tour in Xinjiang. Although the process was very hard and the cost was indeed very expensive, we all finished the trip happily in the end. Students grow up fast
So much has been said, but ultimately it comes back to personal growth. You are happy in the process, I am happy, but in the end, if the students can not get the result, can not be due to the growth, the process of happiness will only deepen the final emptiness.
The insurance front end team always focuses on personal growth. At the beginning of the 17th year, I officially worked as a front end. At the beginning of the 18th year, I joined ant on P6 and was promoted to P7 in just two years, which was inseparable from the cultivation of my supervisor and the assistance of my colleagues. At the same time, when we grow up to a certain stage, we will also take the responsibility to help others. When I took an internal management training course, the teacher ended up asking us what kind of managers we wanted to be in three years. I said, be a manager who can really help your brothers.
Of course, this help is not just lip service. On the one hand, AOE: the output of methodology, such as my recent “What is the Business Contribution to the Front End 3.75” and “Work and Grow with an Entrepreneurial Mindset”, such as my output of Quanstack: After promotion P7. On the other hand, it is directional tutoring: to guide and assist students individualized. Some students are lack of opportunities, some students are lack of supervision, some students are thinking can not turn over and so on, Case by Case analysis.
But the core is that our attitude is to try to let each student can get rapid growth. The team always finds plenty of challenges and opportunities for the best people. In these 3 years, 2 P8 and 9 P7 were cultured in the insurance front end. The fastest student gets 6 in one year and 7 in the next. In the future, more new students will be recruited and more front-end technical experts will be cultivated to constantly break through myself and achieve others.
