Earlier this month, Microsoft temporarily blocked the October update (1809) of Windows 10 due to incompatibility with iCloud. On Wednesday, Apple released iCloud for Windows 7.8.1 to address the issue, which also unblocked version 1809. But there are other issues, big and small, that will have to wait until December.

Win your luck

Microsoft released version 1809 on Nov. 20, which Apple found incompatible with iCloud 7.7.0.29 for Windows, causing users to be unable to upgrade or share albums to sync after upgrading. Conversely, if users already have version 1809 on their PC and want to install iCloud 7.7.0.27 for Windows, their computer will say that iCloud 7.7.0.27 is not supported, causing the installation to fail. In an emergency, Microsoft temporarily stopped sending 1809 to PCS with this version of its iCloud software installed.

After Apple released iCloud Fior Windows 7.8.1, Microsoft reverted to version 1809 deployment. To install Windows 10 1809, users must first install iCloud 7.8.1 for Windows.

Meanwhile, updates to the 1809 continue to be delayed by several minor issues, including incompatibilities with Intel graphics drivers that cause external screens to lose sound and discords that cause connected disk drives. Among them is the disconnection of the connected disk drive, and Microsoft has advanced the update schedule from early 2019 to early December. As for the Intel driver issue, Microsoft is still working on it.

Another glitch is that the search column in Windows Media Player when it plays certain files doesn’t work after update 1809, which Microsoft says it will fix in mid-December.
