Intelligent human being

Man evolved under the influence of the outside world, and influenced by his own will.

Dinosaurs, which weighed 100 times more than humans, dominated the earth 100 million years ago, but they were only “low-level animals” and there was no sign that dinosaurs developed advanced intelligence. Humans, on the other hand, are constantly evolving their tissues with mutations that allow them to be more in touch with and stimulated by things like touch, sight, hearing, smell, and so on. More importantly, the brain also has the memory function, so that human beings know “self” and “outside” in the contact with the external environment, and make clear the physical boundary between each part of human beings and the outside world.

The human brain is constantly strengthened and enlarged by various external stimuli. The neural networks in the brain are becoming more complex, more complex than the universe. A large number of complex neural networks are linked together through synapses, enabling the generation of advanced intelligence.

Origin of life

At the beginning of life, there was no brain, not even nerves. In ancient times, there was no life on earth until RNA and proteins appeared in the oceans. From today’s point of view, these substances do not look like life, but the most primitive forms of life. Later, when DNA appeared, it combined with the original RNA and proteins to form early life. And then went on to evolve into single-celled organisms, like paramecia. Life during that time did not develop nerves, much less a brain.

The emergence of multicellular organisms allowed life to develop into cranial nerves, and subsequent arthropods developed nerve ganglia, which form a spinal cord in the back, and a brain made up of billions of nerve cells at the top of the spinal cord. At this point, life evolved into spinal cord animals with brains. Spinal cord animals evolved along the lines of fish -> amphibians -> reptiles -> birds -> mammals -> humans. Brains evolved and life evolved from sea to land and sky.

The mysterious Brain

The human brain takes about 20 years to complete, starting to take shape around 20 days after fertilization. The brain, midbrain, cerebellum, spine and so on develop in the third month of gestation. The number of nerve cells in the brain and the appearance of the brain are basically the same as those of adults in the ninth month of gestation. They then start building networks of nerve cells, a process that continues until the age of about 20.

Quality is not the determinant of brain intelligence, but the construction of neural networks. The baby’s brain is only about 400 grams at birth, and the adult’s brain is 1200-1500 grams, which is about 95% of the adult’s brain weight by the age of about 6, followed by slow growth. It is important to note that brain weight is not due to the increase in nerve cells, but to the increase in weight as a result of the complexity of the entire neural network.

The adult brain has about 100 billion neurons, with 100 trillion synaptic connections, forming a super-complex neural network. Babies in early childhood have about the same number of neurons as adults, but the connections between the neurons are not there, or very weak. As children grow, they connect neurons together, forming neural networks that create intelligence.

The volume of an intelligent individual

Throughout our universe, the volume of matter ranges from 10 to the minus 19 meters of quarks to the 10 to the 26 meters of the cosmic limit. Although the whole world can seem infinitely small or infinitely large, all living things are within a very small range of size.

Bacteria and viruses are on the micron scale. The largest redwood trees are 100 meters tall, while armillaria in the Blue Mountains of Oregon can reach 4 kilometers across. In the whole range of life, intelligent individuals have a smaller range.

According to computing theory, sentient and intelligent individuals need trillions of “circuit” components. If we could make components the size of neurons in the brain and connect them together, artificial intelligence would be about a meter in size. Maybe it can be said that the meter level is the most suitable size for the advanced intelligence, and the advanced intelligence is reflected by the macro as a whole, and has little correlation with the micro quantum level.

Imagine if the solar system were the brain of a living organism, and neural signals traveled at the speed of light, that organism would not be able to evolve. Because the solar system has only had enough time for 10,000 messages to travel from end to end, not evolution at all. A person’s brain can transmit in about a millisecond, so a lifetime of about two trillion signals would be enough for an individual to evolve.

The ego

Self-awareness is nature at its best. Every living thing has a certain sense of self, but some living things have very weak sense of self, while human beings have a strong sense of self due to their own physiological conditions and growing environment.

Our ability to perceive the outside world is determined by our genes, and this ability is passed down through our DNA. Once we have these senses, we can distinguish ourselves from the outside world, which is the basis of self-awareness. With perception ability, we can obtain all kinds of signals from the outside world, and human beings encapsulate all kinds of signals into concepts, such as the sky, white clouds and so on. In the course of life after birth, human beings continue to fill the neural network of the brain with concepts to achieve the cognition of the outside world.

Cognitive system

The brain is divided into two systems of cognition: those related to intuition, and those related to reasoning and logic. As for intuition, human beings distinguish themselves from the outside world through brain consciousness, while the neural network composed of nerve cells generated by the brain can think from the perspective of a third party, and then understand the world. As for the reasoning and logic part, human beings get the reasoning result through the existing cognitive reasoning and logical analysis of the brain, and the intuition part can be transformed into reasoning and logic.

Senior intelligence

Human beings are constantly stimulated by the outside world through their own perception system, and the neurons in the brain are constantly establishing and strengthening connections, making human beings have a strong sense of self. In addition, thanks to the memory ability of the brain, human beings get the cognition of the outside world through the perception ability, and get the concept system, value system and belief system.

With self-awareness and cognitive systems, human beings gradually move towards higher intelligence. With the increase of human perception experience to the outside world, human beings continuously form an understanding of the world and constantly evolve new concepts, thus generating more and more advanced intelligence.

Original meaning

From a physical point of view, human beings consist of a large number of atoms and molecules, while self-consciousness is generated by individuals composed of these atoms and molecules. Cognitive system, advanced intelligence and so on are all reflected from a macroscopic perspective. Any conscious individual can participate in the evolution of the universe and have an impact on the physical world.
