The popularity of front-end frameworks is growing every year, and frameworks are now almost always needed for development in larger or medium-sized projects. A few years ago, Angular, released by Google, and React, launched by Facebook, started the competition for the position of front-end frameworks. But, in 2018, the front-end world changed significantly, as there was an even stronger player, Vue, entering the race.

Let’s take a look at the current trends of Vue and React and see if Vue can maintain its lead today.

background

Before we dive in, let’s outline some background information about the two frameworks.

React, developed and maintained by tech giant Facebook to meet its needs, has long been a major player in the front-end space to ensure stability and long-term support.

Vue.js was created by Evan You, a former Googler whose goal was to develop a framework that integrated the best features of existing frameworks.

The core difference between

To be objective, we can take a look at the differences between React and vue.js in the Vue.js document, written by Evan You in collaboration with Dan Abramov from the React team.

Vue and React both use the virtual DOM, but they implement it differently.

The main difference between Vue and React is that Vue uses declaratively rendered templates, while React uses JSX, a JS extension that allows HTML to be used in it. This means React requires more complex implementations, and even simple tasks (compared to Vue or even Angula R) end up requiring more time to develop complex components.

Here is an example of a simple login implementation for Vue:

React looks like this:

By comparison, Vue is more advanced and has a lower entry point, because Vue doesn’t need a deep understanding of the JS core to get started.

React and Vue are suitable for small and medium-sized projects.

sentiment

React has been a leader in the popularity of front-end frameworks among JS frameworks. It ranks first with 48,718 dependencies, while Vue is the second most popular JS framework with 21,575 dependencies, half that number. However, if we look at the statistics at the end of 2018, we see that Vue’s dependency tripled while React doubled.

Downloads also showReactThe popularity of Vue downloads has remained almost constant.

Stack Overflow provides the following data based on the number of questions currently being asked by developers working on a particular platform:

While we’re seeing more and more questions about Vue, React is definitely still on top.

According to the fourth edition of JavaScript Rising Stars, which evaluates the number of Stars added to Github each year, Vue ranked number one in 2019.

This statistic is confusing because it doesn’t match up with any of the numbers mentioned earlier, and perhaps the Vue community is more interested in GitHub’s star count.

Of course, there is another reason is Vue our domestic people live much better, our number is far greater than abroad.

Community support

Based on Github’s statistics, we can draw conclusions about how popular Vue is within its open source community, even without the support of top companies.

Facebook engineers have been working on React maintenance and coding, improving and investing in it, making React the fastest growing tool in the developer world.

Flexibility and learning curve

One of the best things about React is its flexibility. React is also easy to learn because it is not a mature framework but rather a library. Developers can add any library they like without having to work in a fixed pattern. MobX and Redux are also widely used by developers working with React to support state management tasks.

Vue is also flexible and has no restrictions on building applications. It also provides official support for various build systems, and the learning process doesn’t take much time: familiarity with basics like HTML and ES5(6) is the only basic knowledge we need to get started.

The frame size

The size of the framework is a key criterion that directly affects project productivity, and the smaller the framework, the better the impact on the project. React is about 100 Kb, while Vue is about 80 Kb. Both have a relatively small size, which makes them convenient for developing small applications.

case

When choosing a technology for a project, it is also important to know where the technology has been used.

React app development:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Whatsapp

Vue application development:

  • Gitlab
  • 9Gag
  • Nintendo
  • Grammarly

To sum up, React is currently more popular than Vue because it has a stronger team to improve and maintain it, while Vue does not. Vue and React offer a high degree of flexibility, easy-to-learn curves, and are both small.

Will Vue surpass React in popularity in 2020? It’s less likely.

The bugs that may exist after code deployment cannot be known in real time. In order to solve these bugs, I spent a lot of time on log debugging. Incidentally, I recommend a good BUG monitoring tool for youFundebug.
