I saw that the time to enter Tencent has been mature, so I excitedly sent my resume, although the resume at that time is not as good as autumn recruitment, but it is not bad, a resume screening should not be a problem.


Campus recruitment has a habit of tencent is you will be asked to select applicants interested in enterprise group, everybody know tencent have a lot of business group, one of the prestigious WXG, IEG, SNG, OMG, etc., this option allows you to resume to the group of the interviewer preferred to see the cause, and other company departments have the same effect.


Naturally, I chose IEG as my favorite career group and began to dream about my life after entering the GAME development department of Tencent.


But the reality is always cruel. As a Java engineer, it is not easy to find a suitable position in Tencent, where C++ is the main development language, let alone the game development department, which is completely dependent on C++.


As a matter of fact, when I chose the path of Java engineer, I knew that I had no chance to work in the game department. This Posting was just my wishful thinking. I thought that it would be acceptable to work in the data department or operation department related to games.




Before long, the first telephone interview, the interviewer was a small sister come up to ask (also could be a big sister) I’ll have the time to interview, general this kind of situation I were promised to direct the interview, and then she asked some basic questions, tencent’s most like to ask is the computer networks and operating systems, networking usually ask a few questions: Three-way handshake, four-way wave, HTTPS vs. HTTP, TCP vs. UDP, HTTP1.1 vs. 1.0, and more.


The operating system asks the usual questions: the difference between threads and processes, how processes communicate and so on. In addition, she was more interested in my resume and asked me about my internship experience, projects I had done, and technical blogs. The interview lasted more than 40 minutes and the conversation was good enough, so she asked me to wait for the next interview.


This interview is generally defined as the “resume interview”, which is usually held during the recruitment stage. The interviewer will collect some good resumes and then simply interview the interviewees to determine whether the level of the interviewees is consistent with the resume. Therefore, they will generally ask questions for the resume, and the questions will not be too difficult.


After hanging up the phone, I realized that I had forgotten to ask the department of the other party, but after listening to the introduction of the department’s technology stack, it seemed to be far from what I wanted to do. But I’ll just have to wait for the second interview.



Came a few days later, a second interview, sure enough, give me a call the interviewer from IEG and game, a division of irrelevant, specific do what I have already can’t remember, anyway, their main job is to develop SASS cloud services, and use of language or Python, can say and my direction is the horse and the wind.


This gives me depressed bad, don’t let me do game development I accept, but you also don’t assign me to a department that has nothing to do with games, even the language is not the same. But the interviewer was smart enough to know that I didn’t understand Python, and she didn’t understand Java, so she started talking about life and dreams.


Is really ideal life chat, first and I discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the difference between c + +, Java, Python, and then began to ask, how do you spend my college life is then start asking some HR will ask the question: why do you one’s deceased father grind, what do you think is the biggest difficulty, now do what was the most successful thing, bala bala.


We spent an hour talking about such a boring topic. At the end of the conversation, she asked me if I was willing to transfer to Python, and told me that the department had a last-place elimination system, which required the completion of development tasks within the specified time, ranking and eliminating the unqualified students. Anyway, I was not interested in the department at all, so I simply told the interviewer what I really thought and parted with her on good terms.


A few days later, my interview status changed to “maybe the position is not suitable for you”, which actually means that I have entered the back-up pool. I also know in my heart that I will either wait for an attractive interviewer to see me, or cool off. It seems that my Dream of Tencent games will be GAME OVER.



Tips on choosing your target career group:


In addition to choose the specific business group, you can also choose a special options “without specific intention business group”, which means that you accept any enterprise group interview, if you choose this option, most likely to enter the spare tire pool, but some said, if your resume is good enough, choose this option doesn’t hurt.


However, in my opinion, it is better to choose the department you are most interested in and find out whether you are suitable for this department. I spent a lot of effort to find a Java department in Tencent before, and finally found that SNG may be a department that uses More Java.


In addition, WXG is also known as wechat business group, the interview is quite difficult, ordinary students should not easily try, Tencent school admission officials have said that WXG interview pass rate is very low, and there will be a committee (interview committee consisting of dozens of interviewers) for review, can be said to be quite scary. But I do know some students who got offers from WXG in spring recruitment, so I’m not trying to dissuade you.


By the way, Tencent’s business group was reorganized after the recruitment last fall. SNG no longer exists and was incorporated into a new business group, so you may need to search the street again for information about business groups.


In fact, during the graduate student, I delivered many times back and forth tencent school recruit, first choice is not to the enterprise group, the second choice of IEG, third choice is SNG, in this process, my technical strength in the ascent, and understanding of the department also has improved, so finally can get offer also not surprising.
