I am an IT veteran who has worked for 10 years. Now I am working as a BI engineer in a company in Beijing Mutual Finance Industry.

Entering the society, in their early 20 s I took a student’s childlike, do not know anything about job, career planning, social relations, only know I desperately want to find a job, to do a career, but don’t know if I can do, should do, to find a job like a headless fly, resume everywhere.

No action was a failure of the target, for a long time I did not find a job, then the family relatives friend help me to find a job in Beijing, also don’t know what job content specific, only know salary is 1500, was thinking can make money is better than I stay at home, I am in a daze on the train to Beijing, Opened my north drift dream…..

“North drift” – 1.5 K reality is too skinny

Before ARRIVING in Beijing, I was full of longing for this international metropolis. On the train in Beijing, I imagined many scenes after arriving in Beijing, imagining myself in suits and shoes shuttling between the CBD of the imperial capital and meeting all kinds of excellent professional “white bones”.

Central air conditioning was on in the office, and neat folders were stacked on the desks, leading a “9-to-5” life on TV every day.

However, all my dreams were shattered when I arrived in Beijing.

Just arrived in Beijing, with the money from my family, I rented a house with the help of my relatives, and then I reported to the company introduced by my relatives. The moment I stepped into the office, I realized it was totally different from what I had expected.

My first job in life was in a bidding company with only seven people including the boss. I was assigned a position called “software engineer”, which sounds high and mighty, but in fact I was a handyman.

Resign to change industry, bumpy journey to find the direction

Working in a bidding company is a torment for me. I have thought about resigning and returning to my hometown for many times, but I am not reconciled to it. Leaving Beijing when I have accomplished nothing seems more like escaping.

After many times of painful thinking, I decided to try a new career direction, so I quit my first job and changed jobs through my own efforts, and my salary increased from 1500 to 6000.

When I first started working, I was happy with my salary increase, but soon I found myself surrounded by colleagues with bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees. And I was the lowest education level in the unit, the lowest salary, all of a sudden not happy.

Know gap to think a way to close the gap, so I opened a crazy state of learning, parallel, rise only this study and PHP technology training work during the day and night to nine WEB front-end training class after work, weekend PHP backend and rise only this cycle to school, for a whole year study day and night, let I harvest quite abundant, also successfully got the bachelor degree.

I thought that my efforts could be rewarded, but the reality was cruel. The salary growth was slow and the position remained unchanged. When I was at my wits end, I came into contact with “sail soft” by chance.

I got to know Fansoft in 2013. At that time, our company won a big project and needed to build the online direct report (analysis) system for nonferrous metal industry statistics, complete the warehousing of historical data, collect the new data of the enterprise through filling in the report function, and finally make the analysis and display. The whole project cycle is about two years.

Considering the large amount of engineering, high cost, long cycle and other factors, the company gave up research, ready to use tools to achieve, after investigation and selection of soft sail tools to achieve. In this project, I was mainly responsible for function development and my partner was responsible for effect display.

It is not easy to learn a new tool to develop products. Fortunately, the help documents of Fansoft products are very detailed. Through a thorough gnawing of the help documents, as well as the continuous attempts of my partner and I, a set of decent system was finally completed and passed the acceptance smoothly.

Job-hopping comfort zone, choose mutual gold field

After six years in the company, I unconsciously reached the age of 30. At this time, I have a clearer understanding of my career plan. The stability and comfort here are not what I want, and I need a bigger platform to play my value.

Therefore, I decided to change jobs again, giving up the stability of public institutions. With my experience in the field of sail soft products and an FCRP certificate, I joined the booming Mutual Gold Company at that time, and my salary increased from 10K to 20K.

The new company did have a lot of project opportunities, and I was assigned to a platform project immediately. Relying on their familiarity with the soft platform of the sail, a direct hand in the past to open dry.

But after understanding, only to find that things are not simple, the company is their own development before, each department has its own system, data caliber is different, non-standard, colleagues also always questioned “is your data accurate”…… With so many questions piling up in front of me, I decided to do something about it, starting with important business analysis.

Through the continuous battle of the product and the business department, after many painful meetings and discussions, the business department finally found that the tedious SQL fetch, Excel sorting and other operations can be simplified into automatic refresh and automatic fetch through the platform! Now I was relieved to have a firm foothold in the company.

The industry is changing rapidly and layoffs are continuing

I thought I had reached a good platform and could finally show my talents, but accident happened again!

I remember that Monday when I came back to work to find that half of the people in my department had been laid off.

Companies have fewer people, but demand has only increased. I realized that this might be a good opportunity for platform promotion, so we started to connect with core departments such as internal audit, external disclosure, human finance, so that leaders of each business line could clearly see their department’s performance.

Sure enough, all the efforts were fulfilled. At the end of 2019, the leader sent an internal letter saying that the future data platform would be based on our BI platform and all the data ports of the company would be brought together. I was really relieved. After four rounds of layoffs, I was lucky enough to hold on and my salary increased from 20K to 30K.

I’m a 10-year veteran of the IT industry, so that’s my story.
