Use the Brightness function key
If the screen looks too bright or too dark, you can adjust the brightness of the monitor.
- On a Mac, press the Brightness key
- Or reduce brightness key(or use the function bar).
Automatic brightness adjustment
1. If the Mac has an ambient light sensor, go to > System Preferences, tap Display, and then tap Display. 2. Select Auto Brightness.
If you do not see the Auto Brightness check box, you can manually adjust the brightness.
Manual brightness adjustment
1. On the Mac, choose > System Preferences, tap Display, and then tap Display. 2. 2. Drag the Brightness slider to adjust the brightness of your monitor.
Depending on the type of monitor connected to your Mac, you may also see a “Contrast” slider that you can use to adjust the contrast of your monitor.
Set brightness from the menu bar
On some newer portables, you can help optimize battery use by setting the monitor brightness to about 75%. This option will only appear in the menu bar if you set the monitor brightness to a level that uses a lot of energy.
- On a Mac, click the battery icon 🔋 in the menu bar, and then click“Display brightness”.
[Note] If the battery icon is not seen in the menu bar, you need to display the battery status.
