I used Blogspot for a while when I first started building websites, and I used it for a number of reasons, including it’s Google, it’s free, it’s easy and fast… Wait, one of the most important of course is “free” to attract me into the Internet world, so Blogger became my first step into the “official website”.

When did you choose Blogspot as your first site?
Besides the fact that you are a web beginner, the most important reason is that I think you are the same as me.
Wouldn’t it be nice to use a “free” site that doesn’t have the annoying ads of other platforms?
That was a reasonable choice at the time, but it may not have been.
When you’re starting out with Blogspot, you’ll start out with a Blogger subdomain called “example.blogspot.com.”
At the time I was using it, Blogger didn’t support custom domains, but I didn’t know much about how this differed from SEO, which I’ll talk about later.
In summary, I would suggest that Blogspot is not always a good choice if you really want to choose a free site to write your blog.
Why you shouldn’t choose Blogger for your site:
limit
If you’re starting a new site, this may not matter much to you. But the longer you’re in business, or depending on your industry, or if you’re a company, the more you need to publish hundreds of thousands of content a day. “Then this is a problem.
Blogspot is recommended to avoid because it is limited to 100 posts per day, so what do you do if you have more than 100 posts per day?
Yeah, that’s right. I don’t know what to do.
So why choose a blogging platform that will cause problems later, knowing its limitations in the first place?
You have more and better options, like WordPress, whether it’s WordPress.org or WordPress.com, both of which are great options for creating blogs and websites for free.
If you’re interested, check out my other WordPress/Blogspot analysis.
Of course, you can also choose a platform like Medium to start writing. The advantage of Using Medium is that you don’t need to worry about SEO, website speed, website architecture, user experience, etc. If you are not interested in setting up a website and don’t have much knowledge, you just want to concentrate on writing. So Medium is a good choice.
In short, you have to look at the big picture when you start investing.
At this point you must understand your purpose:
- Did you build this site for fun or for serious purposes?
- Do you want to make money or create for leisure?
- Do you want to learn how to build a website?
- Still need to build enterprise website?
If you’re serious, it’s not a good choice in the long run.
Don’t get me wrong, if you want to choose this platform as a place of interest and creativity, that’s great too, no one will say you’re wrong. I just recommend that you not spend too much time building sites and content on The Blogspot platform in the long run.
If you can afford it, I would suggest you buy your own domain and your own web hosting for a small amount of money. If your goal is to start a business or build a brand of your own (either personal or start-up), Blogger is not a good choice for a branded site. Instead, you should choose WordPress, which has more freedom.
Poor architecture causes you to rank poorly
I’m sure there are a lot of people like me who think, “Since Blogger is a Google product, a site that uses Blogspot will rank better.”
Can only say that I was very silly naive.
If you’ve ever used Blogspot to build a website, you know that the site structure is based on an HTML editor that manages the entire site.
This means that you can’t optimize individual categories, tags, pages, and articles individually or even architecturally.
SEO is already a lot harder to do in 2019, so why make it harder on Blogspot?
The most important things to move up in the rankings are architecture, content, and backlinks, and bloggers are already getting off to a bad start with architecture, not to mention interlinking.
Unable to build your site weights
If you choose the free subdomain provided by Blogspot (which is guaranteed by default), your site, no matter how good the content is, will have your weight.
As anyone who does SEO knows, it is very important to cultivate your website (domain).
A established for many years, accumulated a lot of weight of the domain, compared with a newly registered domain, both published articles for Google, in the inclusion, give the weight of the new article… Wait, there’s a world of difference.
So having your own domain is very important for ranking, and having your own domain represents you as a true brand.
Remember how we talked earlier about building your own brand?
Therefore, when it comes to site weight, Blogspot is not a good choice because you will get almost no weight at all.
Although you might think you can build a reputation without having to have your own domain, again, very few people will choose to link to a site that uses Bogpost. In contrast, asking people to link to articles created on Medium increases their willingness to do so.
You’ll lose access to external links, which will hurt your ranking.
You are subject to terms and regulations
Don’t forget that when you use Blogger, you need to “allow” their terms of use, and I bet you’ve never read any of them before accepting them.
After all, you can’t use the service without accepting it.
This means that at some point, your accumulated content is likely to be deleted overnight.
Think about it, if you accidentally (or intentionally) violate one of their terms and conditions, your site will be taken down.
Another way to say this is that you don’t have control of your site.
The benefits of buying their own domain and virtual host is that, whether it is a domain or a website, you have complete control, you are almost not subject to any restrictions (of course illegal or not).
Isn’t the whole point of your website to take control of your life, to be in charge of yourself? What kind of freedom is there if you give control to someone else?
It’s hard to make money from advertising
Whether you have a WordPress site or a Blogspot site, you can apply for Google Adsense to serve ads on these sites, and while both are vetted, it won’t be that easy to apply for Blogger. Conversely, using Blogger.com may subject your censorship to greater scrutiny.
Although your site passes Google Adsense today, Adsense on Blogspot has a more restrictive limit of 3 ads per page.
It’s also hard to customize the placement of your ads on the page.
Blogspot is limited in the flexibility and freedom of its website architecture.
This is also related to the bad SEO architecture mentioned earlier.
If you are not very familiar with website design, it is very difficult for you to customize Settings.
The difficulty is not only that you need to understand the syntax of HTML and CSS3, but Blogger also has its own coding, so you need to learn a programming language.
Remember that one of the reasons you chose Blogspot in the first place, besides being free, was that you were a beginner?
So don’t spend too much time building your site, and even if it takes time to learn, I tend to recommend that you spend that time learning to build WordPress sites.
Blogspot has become a byword for junk sites
In the past, widely building Web 2.0 sites was a popular gray hat (or even black hat) SEO technique.
Since Blogspot is free, many grey Hat SEOs use it to create a lot of spam sites and create backlinks, which is an easy and free way to get external links.
In the past, this method flourished because it worked, but today, it is ineffective or even harmful to the site.
But that leaves bloggers vulnerable to being seen as spam.
So, would you still want to use Blogger as your blogging platform?
Blogspot, like FeedBurner, is seen as spam and spam, but Google can’t seem to get rid of them.
Customizing a domain is not so easy
One question you might be wondering is, “Isn’t Blogspot a place where you can customize domains so I can own the weight of domains?”
That being said, there are actually a lot of problems that need to be solved (or problems that can’t be solved).
Blogspot now offers custom domains, but it has several drawbacks:
- The subnet domain cannot be used
- CDN cannot be used
- Cannot start with a non-www address
- Not a good 301 migration site
First of all, Blogspot can’t use subdomains; it can only bind to master domains.
So for sites like ours, you can only bind to “www.techmoon.xyz”, not “blog.techmoon.xyz”.
Second, the WWW at the front of a web address is redundant, and web addresses today often use the domain directly, such as “techmoon.xyz” instead of “www.techmoon.xyz”, regardless of their impact on SEO, the shorter the url, the better for the user experience.
Also, if you want to customize the subdomain to Blogspot, your NameServer domain NameServer must point to Google, which means you can’t use CloudFlare to host your DNS service. Therefore, CloudFlare’s CDN functions and related services are unavailable.
Finally, if you want to migrate your site, you will encounter a lot of 404 errors, which means that it is difficult to Redirect from the old Blogspot site to the new site with 301 Redirect.
As mentioned earlier, the inherent architectural weakness of Blogspot makes it difficult to optimize this process through code, especially if the site has a large number of articles.
If you had set up your site in the first place on the domain you purchased, you would have avoided all of this nonsense.
It’s more about technology
You know how to speed up your website, optimize your website structure, improve your internal links… In Blogspot, you can’t do that easily.
I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’s very difficult to implement, and it takes a lot of customization to get above 90.
Blogspot pales in comparison to WordPress, which offers quick one-click optimization via plugins.
My thoughts on Blogspot
Although it feels like crap to criticize Blogger, I finally want to put in a good word for him.
As a free blogging platform, Blogspot is already well qualified and enlightened.
The advantage of Using Blogger is that you don’t have to manage the host because it’s hosted by Google, which means you don’t have to worry about the speed of your site or the performance of your host.
In addition, you can upload a lot of images on Blogspot, and you don’t have to worry about image compression or image space, which are all advantages of using Blogspot directly as a website.
But think carefully, you really need to virtual host space and picture space size, sacrifice your site weight, traffic, SEO and even network domain and host control right?
To me, using Blogspot to create a blog or website in 2019 doesn’t seem like a good idea, or even a waste of valuable time.
I hope you can buy your own network domain and virtual host space, now these are really not expensive, a little hard work at the beginning, you look back later may thank me.
