Downwind youth is similar: ashore, high salaries, inherited family business.
Youth against the wind each has its own wonderful work: college entrance examination failure, waste youth, career mistakes and so on…
I belong to: waste youth + career mistake of that kind.
I want to tell, is I from the change of profession, to enter the program world after all kinds of interesting, bitter, strange personnel.
1. State-owned enterprises in manufacturing: two years of excellence, salary cut 200
“That’s what you stayed up all night measuring? It doesn’t help.”
In 2012, I graduated from a 211 school in Wuhan, majoring in “Thermal energy and Power Engineering”, or “engine major”.
From 2012 to 2015, I worked in a state-owned engine factory in a third-tier city in Shandong province with a salary of about 3k for three years.
Out of three years, I got two A’s (top 25%), and guess how much more money I made in the third year than WHEN I just graduated?
The answer is: – $200.
You read that right, it’s 200 bucks less…
The state – owned company’s practices are downright bizarre.
-
This year’s students enter the job to an inflated price, the second year into a positive fixed post fracture. (My pre-tax monthly salary was 4K for the year I started, and then changed to 3.4k for the second year.)
-
A salary increase of 100 yuan per year, B grade unchanged, C or even cut salary.
-
When the benefit is not good, to a full pay cut, a total of difficult times.
Boy, this soE is tougher than a private one.
Therefore, when I rated two years later, looking at the salary of 3k, the heart was desperate, so I discussed with my girlfriend to return to Wuhan to develop.
Two years of honors and a $200 pay cut — that’s awesome.
Another thing that makes me despair is:
Machinery industry barriers deep, even if you want to learn something, but there is no practical environment and experience, it is difficult to gain, each unit of their own things are hidden. (In contrast to the open community environment of software development)
I often feel like I’m dying at a visually visible rate every day I go to and from work.
And something happened that I still find ironic when I think about it:
One year, a series of quality accidents occurred in our factory, which alerted the group’s chief technical expert and necessitated a panel discussion.
The core theory of our factory is “mainly design problem, not assembly process problem”. (I plant for the production unit, simply say is to throw the pot to the design unit)
In order to prove this argument, my immediate boss “Director L” needed a group of very convincing data to support his argument, so he arranged me to stay up late the night before the meeting to conduct experiments and data collection.
Being young and ignorant, I stayed up until two o ‘clock seriously and pragmatically and collected more than ten groups of control data.
The next day, director L saw the data I handed in and flew into a rage: “This is the result of your staying up late to measure? It doesn’t help.”
Useless is “true but does not support my argument”. The last set of data, after a clever transformation, became “useful data”.
In that case, why am I staying up late measuring maps?
And so on. In our three years on the job, we’ve done a lot of work with one goal in mind: “Dump the blame.” It made me feel like my work was pretty pointless.
My life is also like an old man in his late years, basking in the afternoon sun at four or five o ‘clock.
After a long time of deliberation, I finally made a decision!
In the summer of 2015, I rolled up my bedding and went back to Wuhan to find a job with my girlfriend.
I didn’t think it would be a long job search, but I didn’t expect it to be such an up-and-down story.
Two, confused hesitation, looking for a way out
“–” What are your salary targets?”
6.5 K “-“
“–” Splash…”
In more than a month of job hunting, my psychology has undergone the following changes:
At first, I interviewed “head factory”; Later I interviewed “ordinary big factory”; Then I thought, “Small factory is ok, not too remote”; Finally, “As long as it’s a factory.”
To my surprise, low-end mechanical talents are so saturated and cheap in wuhan’s recruitment market.
Here’s an example:
In 2015, I had an interview with a “supercharger” manufacturer outside the 4th Ring Road. After passing the initial interview, I admitted that my target salary was 6.5K and the HR just couldn’t bear to laugh… Frankly speaking, there are no more than 3 people in the factory who exceed this salary.
Is 6.5K high in 2015??
I never heard back from any company I wanted after one or two rounds of interviews. But the companies that attracted me were either impressive salaries, poor production conditions, or small workshops with high mountains and long roads.
As a result, my mindset shifted from “What job should I get” to “What on earth can I do?” .
Two months later, after sifting through job listings, I became disillusioned and began to change my career goals and try in other directions.
Both to relieve anxiety and to make some money.
I worked as a telemarketer in a city for one and a half months. (Crank phone calls, used car lots)
I worked as general manager assistant in a creative decoration for two months. (I male, 170 jin, tiger waist, make tea for the general manager…)
Also in a decoration, transfer marketing data analysis for more than a month. (Main tools: Excel, PPT)
Above this series of short and tuneless job hunting career, also let me constantly reflect on a lot of problems.
“Ten years of cold Windows, four years of university, if I don’t do machinery, what can I do?”
“What are my core competencies?”
“Where is my way out?”
I still remember that it was an afternoon when I was “assistant to the general manager”.
Mr. Xu Hongyu, the general manager, had a conversation with me which is very valuable for my future. He put forward a point of view: “Learning ability is the core competitiveness of young people.”
My instinct was to push back when everything was going against me.
But Mr. Xu stopped me, said he was not willing to discuss individual cases, let me think about whether this sentence is universal.
Later, I thought about this sentence over and over again, thinking about its correctness, and then actually realized a lot of things.
Attracted by lies, but a moth to the fire
It’s hard to tell whether I’m attracted to lies or to The Times.
It was in those months that I scanned the recruitment software again and again, thinking over and over which jobs are suitable for me, which are high-paying, which are not remote, which I am interested in, which are not high barriers, and which skills are widely needed.
The most important point is consistent with the third industrial Revolution.
Again and again, the answer came:
“Programmer.”
At that time, in 2015, the Internet bubble had not yet burst, Lao Luo’s Smartisan technology was booming, and all kinds of new Internet things emerged in endlessly.
“If miracles had a birthplace, it would be the Internet.”
At that time, the “58 recruitment”, “hunting”, “pull”, programmer’s salary was always far ahead of other professions.
“8-10K, required: programming enthusiast, willing to learn, hard-working.”
It was obvious to the eye that the above requirements were questionable, but as an outsider at the time, I still felt the urge to ask, “Is this the calling of The Times?”
Later I learned that the above recruitment is a trick of training institutions.
So I made up my mind and started my “path of learning programming”.
I downloaded the “Ma Soldier Java Tutorial” series of videos and filled my Kindle with various “Android from Beginner to Master” and “Crazy Android” tutorials.
I study like crazy.
Between work hours, all the time between work hours and 2 am in the evening, and subway rides.
I remember sitting in the middle of a noisy company all-hands meeting with a paper notebook and writing a “Java asynchronous” script that I couldn’t understand that day.
Until near the end of 2015, I quit.
The reason for his resignation was marriage.
If there was a low point in my life before I turned 30, I was definitely at rock bottom in 2015, unable to breathe.
At that moment, she was still by my side, and she believed in me and married me.
After I got married, I spent a month studying full-time.
It wasn’t until I made a simple “Weibo Android client” that I decided I should look for some work.
Four, hard into the line, indomitable
When I started looking for a job, I chose a few “low-requirement, high-paying” companies.
There is no doubt about it!
Discussion of training institutions:
- Come up with some weird, practical, difficult questions that knock the interviewer’s confidence out of him or her.
- The recruiter consoled the interviewer by saying, “Although your current level is not good enough, it just so happens that our company has an opportunity for cooperative training…”
- The fish is on the hook.
(To this day, one of the 8 city is still full of this kind of recruitment, but now there is a warning “training recruitment”)
After experiencing Pua in two or three training institutions, I began to fall into a huge panic again: “I have been studying hard for months, how can I do nothing?”
At this time, in a mobile terminal development QQ group, a person in the group asked: “recruitment android development, interested in private chat.”
I hold to ask again don’t drop the idea of meat, hair private chat: “excuse me recruit intern?”
“Yes, come and have a chat.”
That’s how I started my first formal interview with a “non-training” company.
This is a small company with a production and research team of 7 people. The technical director is a man from northeast China in his 30s. He has a bright crewcut and a distinct taste of Northeast Mandarin.
Brother Lei also does not know Much about Android technology, and he is an experienced Java server developer. Therefore, in the interview with me, he mainly asked me some questions about “Java foundation”. Compared with those questions that training institutions deliberately create difficulties for people, brother Lei’s questions were very sincere.
At the end of the interview, Lei asked me what my salary expectations were.
At the time, MY thoughts were pretty extreme:
What elder brother lacks is not that thousands of yuan really, what elder brother lacks is the stepping-stone of industry and industry experience.
So I honestly said, “I don’t need a salary.”
Lei ge said: “this is definitely not possible, you still have to live, how many points, after all, we are a team.”
I thought for a moment and said, “Two thousand.”
Lei elder brother said, good.
So that’s the technical side.
The boss, a middle-aged man in his forties, came over for a brief chat and asked me about my salary.
Should be lei elder brother already hit good foreshadowing reason, when I say expectation salary is “monthly salary 2K” after, the boss very readily agreed.
“2K monthly salary, starting tomorrow.”
For me, that was the beginning of my career.
