This post is for people who are preparing for, or have already published their games on the App Store (and in other markets like Google Play).

By giving you examples of two apps, “New Oxygen” and “Micro Photograph”, I will show you what is a silly mistake and what is advanced gameplay for the app market.

Why even the same code, the same promotion budget, sales can be a hundred times, a thousand times different.

Real case analysis – search ranking

Let’s go to an App Store data analysis platform and use Qimai data to search for the two apps “Xinoxygen” and “Weipu”.

Here we can see that The New Oxygen App has established a strong moat, the top five are all plastic surgery software, almost all their own software and competitors. And look at the number of keywords covered, all are thousands, Top 3 keywords also have hundreds. (Note: Keyword coverage refers to the number of keywords that can be searched for your app. The Top 3 keywords are those that are in the Top 3 of the search results.)

Only giant apps like IQiyi, Youku and Meituan can get a little traffic under the keyword “new Oxygen”. Now let’s look at the negative case, the two applications of micro P graph, the average Top 3 keywords are only 10, we click in to see carefully

Knowing this information will go a long way in helping you analyze your competing products and see which ones are the real traffic movers and worthy of censoring your traffic. And some just went to Taobao to buy reviews, look good.

Actual case analysis – Screenshot of application

Let’s look at the new oxygen App:

The key message we want to take from this is:

  • The first three screenshots in the app store, 99% of your users won’t read your app, can have a huge impact on your sales.
  • As indie developers, we may not have a lot of design resources. But in this free columnPrevious articleI’ve also shared some resources for one-click screenshots that you can try out. As long as your screenshots aren’t ugly and show your core features, you’re good.
